which honey is best for face - #37118

Zoey

I am really confused about which honey is best for face stuff. I’ve been dealing with dry skin and a bit of acne for a while now. My friend told me that honey can be super helpful, but honestly, there’s just too much information out there. Like, some people say Manuka honey is the holy grail, while others swear by raw honey or even local wildflower honey. I tried using a bit of Manuka a few days ago, and it felt nice but was kinda expensive. I mean, I just want to know which honey is best for face care! I've read that honey has natural moisturizing properties, but I’m not sure if there’s a certain kind that works better than others. I also mixed some into my DIY face mask — eggs, yogurt, honey, you know? And it made my skin feel all sticky and weird, but was it the wrong kind of honey? Maybe I should've tried a different one? Also, if it matters, I’ve got a few spots of redness on my cheeks — does that change what honey is best for face stuff? Should I stick with just one type for a while or can I mix them? Really hope I’m not overcomplicating things. Need some good advice before I keep trying different things here!

When it comes to selecting the best honey for your face, especially with issues like dry skin and acne, it’s essential to understand the unique benefits each type of honey offers. Honey can indeed be a great natural remedy for skin concerns due to its moisturizing and antimicrobial properties.

Manuka honey is often regarded highly in the skincare world for its potent antibacterial properties due to a compound called methylglyoxal. It’s usually effective in treating acne and eczema, but as you’ve noticed, it can be pricey. Raw honey has many of the same benefits - it’s less processed and retains its natural enzymes, which are excellent for skin nourishment. Local wildflower honey may also offer gentle antimicrobial benefits and could be more affordable if you’re budget-conscious.

Your experience with the sticky DIY mask might have been from over-applying or the combination of ingredients not blending well. Honey naturally has a sticky consistency, so using it in small amounts is more effective. Try applying a thin layer of raw or wildflower honey directly on your face after cleansing, leave it for 10-15 minutes, and rinse with warm water. This could keep your skin moisturized without overdoing the stickiness factor.

Considering your redness - this is often linked to underlying Pitta imbalance in Ayurveda. Cooling ingredients in addition to honey, like yogurt or aloe vera, can help soothe the skin. Continue using a single type of honey consistently for a few weeks to observe its effects before introducing another one. Remember, it’s always good to do a patch test first to ensure there’s no heightened sensitivity.

A practical approach could be integrating raw or wildflower honey with regular face care routine, focusing on gentle cleansing and hydration to encourage balanced skin health.

When it comes to selecting honey for your skin, especially considering your dry skin and acne-concerns, the choice of honey can indeed make a difference. In Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective, each type of honey can have slightly different effects based on its properties and source.

For dry skin coupled with acne, raw honey is an excellent choice. It is less processed than the typical kinds you find at the store, retaining more of its natural enzymes which can help with moisturizing the skin and and offering antibacterial benefits, both of which are important for dealing with dryness and acne. Manuka honey is indeed beneficial because of its unique properties, especially its higher methylglyoxal content which boosts its antibacterial effects. However, for practical and budget reasons, good-quality raw or wildflower honey can also serve well.

Including honey in DIY face masks like with yogurt is a good approach since yogurt adds lactic acid for gentle exfoliation. Feel free to adjust your honey’s quantity on your mix so it’s not overly sticky but rather smooth and consistent. Keep in mind, any initial skin stickiness should wash away once rinsed, leaving your skin feeling soft.

Regarding redness on your cheeks, aim for soothing applications. Besides honey alone, you might combine it occasionally with turmeric for its anti-inflammatory properties. Apply the honey-mask for about 15-20 minutes, then rinse it off with lukewarm water. This duration ensures its properties penetrate without overly drying skin, aiding the redness and acne issues. Use a suitable amount, once or twice a week.

Consistency generally works best for skin care, so it’s advisable to stick to one type of honey for a couple weeks to monitor your skin’s response before trying others. Keep attentiveness to your prana life-force energy, balancing dosha levels for more comprehensive skin health. A healthy, integrous lifestyle, inclusive of diet, hydration and other self-care rituals, often complements topical treatments organically. If serious skin reactions develop, consulting with a dermatologist is advisable too.
