is hair serum good for daily use - #37386

Asher

I am really struggling with my hair lately, it feels dry and looks super frizzy no matter what I do. A friend recommended that I try using a hair serum since she swears by it, but I’m wondering—is hair serum good for daily use? Like, is it okay to put it on every day? Recently, I’ve noticed that my scalp also feels kinda itchy and I thought maybe using a serum might help with that. My hair’s been shedding more than usual too, ugh, it’s frustrating! I tried a couple of products already, and while some worked a little bit, I just don’t know if using hair serum daily is the right way to go. I keep hearing mixed things. Some say it can really nourish the hair and make it shiny, but others have mentioned that it might make it greasy or weighed down. How true is that? Like, should I be using it in the morning before styling, or maybe at night? Seriously, is hair serum good for daily use, or am I just going to end up making things worse? Any thoughts or personal experiences would really help because I’m starting to get desperate with my hair situation!

When it comes to using hair serum daily, especially for dryness and frizziness, it’s important to understand how it aligns with your unique hair type and scalp condition. Hair serum, generally, is designed to add shine, reduce frizz, and provide a protective layer against environmental damage. Its benefits can indeed be alluring, but whether it’s suitable for daily use depends on the specific type of serum and your hair’s individual needs.

For dry and frizzy hair, a lightweight serum with natural oils like argan, coconut or jojoba can be particularly beneficial. These oils are known for penetrating the hair shaft, offering nourishment without weighing it down. If your hair serum is oil-based, you might want to apply it sparingly – perhaps every other day or a few times a week, rather than daily, to avoid any build-up or greasiness. Applying it lightly, on damp hair before styling, can help manage frizz and add some luster.

Your itchy scalp could be an indication of Vata imbalance or an accumulation of toxins in the body according to Ayurveda. While serum can offer surface-level relief, addressing the root cause through lifestyle and dietary changes might be more beneficial. Include a warming diet to pacify Vata, consisting of cooked vegetables, whole grains, and warm herbal teas. Regular oil massage with warm sesame or coconut oil can also nourish your scalp and improve overall hair health.

Frequent hair washing with drying shampoos can exacerbate scalp dryness, so consider reducing washing frequency if that contributes to the issue. Use gentle, sulfate-free shampoos instead. Also opt for lukewarm water rather than hot, as excessive heat can strip oils further.

While serums can indeed impart a shiny finish, used excessively, they may lead to a greasy appearance or weigh your hair down. If you notice your hair feeling heavy or looking greasy, cutting back on how often you use it might helps. Experiment by using the serum as a finishing touch post styling to gauge how it reacts with your daily hair routine.

Overall, introducing hair serum should be done thoughtfully, observing how your hair responds, and making adjustments as necessary. Balancing serum application with attention to underlying dietary and lifestyle factors can lead to healthier, happier hair.
