Changing your skin tone significantly is neither safe nor truly achieves what’s most naturally healthy for your skin. However, Ayurveda focuses more on achieving a balanced, bright, and healthy glow rather than altering your inherent skin color. Uneven skin tone can be a result of vitiated doshas, primarily pitta dosha imbalance. So, a few things could help in harmonizing this and promoting an even tone.
First, to use turmeric and gram flour, create a paste by mixing 1 tablespoon of gram flour (besan) with a pinch of turmeric and enough milk to achieve a smooth consistency. Apply this paste to your skin, letting it dry for about 15-20 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. This can be used 2-3 times a week. Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which aid in reducing pigmentation.
Aloe vera gel mixed with a few drops of lemon juice can also be gently applied to pigmented areas, avoiding direct exposure to the sun afterward, as lemon makes the skin photosensitive. This also helps in brightening the skin naturally without turning to aggressive products.
From the diet perspective, consuming foods that help cool the system such as cucumbers, watermelons, and fresh dairy can help balance excess pitta. Drinking an herbal tea made from a combination of amla, mint, and coriander can help detoxify and bolster your skin’s natural tone.
Lastly, gentle sun protection practices and managing stress levels can significantly help in maintaining an even complexion. Remember, these practices usually work over time, and patience is key. If you don’t see improvements or your skin condition worsens, consider seeing an Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized advice.
