how to use reetha for hair wash - #37662

Lily

I am really struggling with my hair lately! It’s been dry, kinda brittle, and I feel like every time I wash it, it just gets worse. A friend mentioned something about how to use reetha for hair wash, saying it's like this magical natural cleanser. I looked up a bunch of info, and honestly, it sounds amazing! But I’m confused. I want to know, like, how to use reetha for hair wash properly. Do I need to soak it, grind it up, or just use whole nuts? I heard people say it can make your hair super soft and shiny, but I’m worried it might not work for me. Do you think I should mix it with something else? I tried using some chemical shampoos before, but they just messed with my scalp and made it greasy, ugh. Last week, I collected some reetha nuts, and I’m almost ready to give it a go. Do I need to boil them or something before applying? I guess I’m wondering if there are special tips on how to use reetha for hair wash that might help me avoid mistakes or overdoing it? Really hoping this could be the answer I need!

Reetha, or soap nuts, is indeed a wonderful natural cleanser for hair, especially for those experiencing dryness and brittleness, much like in your situation. Now, on how to use it effectively: you’ll start with the preparation. Yes, you’ll need to soak them for the best results. Take about 10-12 reetha nuts, depending on the length and thickness of your hair, and soak them overnight in approximately 2-3 cups of water. This softening step helps release the natural saponins — the compounds that cleanse your hair gently without stripping it of its natural oils.

In the morning, boil the soaked reetha along with the water they’ve been sitting in for about 15-20 minutes then allow it to cool down. After cooling, you’ll want to mash the nuts a bit to fully release the juices. Strain the mixture through a sieve or a muslin cloth to remove any solid bits, leaving you with a liquid cleanser.

Now, about using it: Apply this reetha shampoo to wet hair. Massage it gently into your scalp and hair, ensuring to cover all strands. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. You might not get the sudsy lather like with conventional shampoos, but its cleansing properties are effective.

If you’re looking to enhance the moisturizing effect, consider adding some natural ingredients to your reetha preparation. You can blend in a small amount of fresh aloe vera gel or a teaspoon of hibiscus powder. These additions can combat dryness and potentially add extra softness and shine.

Remember, reetha’s mild nature means it’s gentle on the scalp, but if your scalp was sensitive to chemical shampoos, you should still observe how it reacts, especially if you have underlying scalp issues. For those with extremely dry hair, you might follow up with a conditioner or a light oil like coconut or almond oil to seal in moisture.

Using reetha once or twice a week is sufficient for most people. However, if you notice your hair feels drier than usual, reduce frequency adding a moisturizing treatment can help balance things.

And yes, if reetha works well — you might just find it to be the natural alternative you’ve been searching for. Stepping away from chemical-laden products often leads to healthier hair and scalp overall, so give it some time and patience.
