how to use multani mitti on hair - #37761

Hailey

I am struggling with some serious hair issues and thought maybe someone here could help! So, for awhile now my scalp has been super oily, but my hair ends are just so dry and frizzy. Ugh, it’s so frustrating! I heard about this stuff called multani mitti and wanted to try it out but honestly, I have no idea how to use multani mitti on hair. A friend mentioned it can help balance things, but is that true? And like, what’s the best way to apply it? Do I just mix it with water or something? Last week I tried doing a DIY mask with yogurt and honey but it didn't really work. I also read online that people have used multani mitti mixed with oils and some herbs, which sounds interesting. Will that just make my hair greasier or is it really effective? Do I need to wash it off after a certain time? Also, how often can I do this? I’ve seen different recommendations like once a week or even twice a month... I just don’t want to mess it up more! Pls help me figure out how to use multani mitti on hair because I really need a fix for this mess! Thanks!!

Using multani mitti, also known as Fuller’s Earth, can be quite effective for balancing oily scalp while nourishing dry ends. This natural clay has properties that can help absorb excess oil from the scalp while providing a mild cleansing effect, which can help with your hair concerns.

Start by preparing a simple multani mitti hair pack. Mix enough multani mitti with water to form a smooth paste – not too runny or too thick. For an extra touch, you can add ingredients that suit your hair needs. For example, adding a teaspoon of aloe vera gel can help soothe and moisturize your scalp, while a few drops of lemon juice can enhance the oil-absorbing properties if your scalp is very oily.

In case you’re open to trying herbs, incorporating a small amount of amla (Indian gooseberry) powder can also be beneficial. Amla is known in Ayurveda for its cooling and hair strengthening properties, which can complement the effects of multani mitti. Mix it well with the multani mitti paste.

Apply this paste to your scalp and hair, focusing more on the scalp where excess oil collects. Then gently work your way towards the hair strands. Leave it on for about 20-30 minutes, allowing the clay to absorb oils and provide nutrients to your scalp. Rinse it thoroughly with lukewarm water afterwards, making sure there’s no residue left behind.

Regarding frequency, using this hair pack once a week can be beneficial for oily scalp and dry, ends without over-drying the strands. However, if you notice any increase in dryness, you might adjust to once every two weeks. Always listen to your hair’s response and any changes in texture or moisture level.

Avoid mixing too many greasy ingredients like oils if your scalp is extremely oily, since they might weigh down the hair further. Balance is the key here, so monitor how your hair responds and adjust the proportions or frequency as necessary.

Multani mitti, or Fuller’s earth, can be a useful ally for your hair woes, particularly when dealing with an oily scalp and dry ends. It’s known for its ability to absorb excess oil and impurities, making it particularly effective for balancing oily scalp conditions without over-drying the hair. Let’s look into how you can make the best use of it.

To apply multani mitti on your hair, make a paste by mixing it with water, but to enhance its benefits, consider adding ingredients that can nourish your hair too. Here’s a recommended blend: Take 3–4 tablespoons of fuller’s earth and mix it with some water to create a thick paste. Then add a tablespoon of aloe vera gel and a few drops of lemon juice. Aloe vera is very hydrating and can help soothe any irritation, while lemon juice helps maintain the pH balance of your scalp.

Apply this mix generously to your scalp and hair, focusing on the roots where oil buildup is more pronounced. Gently work it through the length of your hair till the ends. Let it sit for about 20–30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Make sure to remove all the paste from your hair to prevent residue.

Considering your concerns, use this treatment once a week to begin with. If your scalp seems too dry, reduce the frequency to every two weeks. This approach should help manage oiliness without drying out your ends, but using a light conditioner on the ends post-rinse can also help maintain moisture. If adding oils or herbs seems appealing, just add them in small quantities to see how your hair responds.

Finding balance with your hair care routine takes time, but consistency with these practices typically shows improvements. If you don’t notice changes after a month or so, or if your scalp condition worsens, consider consulting with a dermatologist or Ayurvedic practitioner for a more tailored approach.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
