how long multani mitti on face - #37941

Jaxon

I am really confused about using multani mitti lately! I’ve been hearing about it for a while and thought it could help with my oily skin, so I mixed it with some rosewater and applied it. But now, I’m wondering how long multani mitti should be on face? I mean, I left it on for like 20 minutes, but some people say you shouldn't exceed 10, and I don’t wanna mess up my skin! The first time it actually felt nice, my skin felt tight but in a good way. But then I got this itching sensation, and I panicked, like, am I doing this right?! Should I have washed it off sooner? Also, does it differ if someone has sensitive skin like me? I feel like everytime I try something new, it's like a battle between my skin getting cleaner or getting more irritated. And, what about using multani mitti too often? Is once a week enough, or should I stick to every two weeks? I really want to see some improvement without risking a breakout or dry patches. Any advice from those who use it regularly would be super helpful!! Thanks a lot!

Multani mitti, also known as Fuller’s Earth, is indeed a popular choice for those dealing with oily skin due to its potent oil-absorbing properties. Leaving multani mitti on your face for about 10 to 15 minutes is generally sufficient. Going beyond that, as you’ve experienced, can lead to sensations like itching or tightness, especially for sensitive skin types. When it starts to feel tight or begins to dry significantly, that’s usually a signal to wash it off. It’s crucial not to let it dry completely to the point of cracking as this can strip away essential moisture and potentially lead to irritation.

Given your skin’s sensitivity, it’s wise to perhaps err on the side of caution. You might benefit from reducing the duration the mask stays on or even mixing it with a more soothing agent like aloe vera gel alongside rosewater. This could provide hydration and a cooling effect, helping to counterbalance the drying potential of the clay.

As for the frequency, starting with once a week for oily skin is reasonably sound. It allows you to observe how your skin responds and adjust if necessary. If irritation or dryness becomes an issue, consider cutting back to every two weeks. Keep an eye on how your skin reacts both immediately after use and over time. It’s all about finding the right balance that your skin can tolerate without tipping into over-drying or irritation.

Besides, it might be helpful to perform a patch test on a small area of your skin before each new application, just to ensure no adverse reaction occurs. Be mindful of other products in your skincare routine as well, ensuring they don’t conflict with the effects of multani mitti. Balance with a good moisturizer after washing off the mask, providing nourishment and hydration which is essential for maintaining a healthy skin barrier.

Lastly, consider using a soothing facial oil or serum after washing the mask off if dryness becomes an issue. It’d be wise to avoid layering too many active ingredients together which might exacerbate sensitivity, especially if they are drying in nature. Your skincare journey should focus on gentle and supportive care, especially when incorporating potent natural ingredients like multani mitti.

For your oily and sensitive skin, multani mitti can indeed be beneficial, but it’s crucial to use it correctly to avoid irritation. Generally, keeping multani mitti on the face for about 10 to 15 minutes is safe for most skin types. But since you mentioned experiencing itching, it’s wise to start by applying it for no more than 10 minutes. The itching could be a sign that your skin is getting a bit too dry or reacting to it. Sensitive skin does tend to react more, so monitoring is essential.

As for how often, once per week is a balanced approach for oily skin. Using it more often could potentially strip away the natural oils and disrupt the skin’s balance, leading to more oil production or irritation. If you’re seeing good results without irritation, you might try extending this to every two weeks if you notice any increased sensitivity over time.

It’s good that you’re using rosewater; it helps in soothing and adding some hydration to your skin. However, you might want to consider adding a bit of aloe vera gel next time to provide extra moisture and lessen any chances of dryness or irritation. Always make sure you’re rinsing off completely and following up with a moisturizer suitable for sensitive skin right after use. Lastly, if ever the itching gets worse or doesn’t resolve after washing off, it’s best to discontinue and consult a dermatologist. This ensures you’re not causing any unintended harm to your skin.
