can i use curd on my hair - #38305

Asher

I am having really dry and frizzy hair lately, and I’ve been hearing about all these natural remedies that are supposed to help. This one friend of mine, she swears by using curd on her hair, saying it’s like magic for making her hair soft and shiny! I was thinking, can I use curd on my hair too? I mean, I don’t want to do anything that could mess it up even more, you know? I read somewhere that curd is good for hair, but what if I have a sensitive scalp? Will it irritate it or anything? Oh, and also, should I just use plain curd, or does it need to be mixed with something else? I’ve seen lots of videos online where people mix it with oils or honey or something. Does that really help? Because I tried some store bought products before, and man, they just made my hair feel worse. It’s so frustrating! Can I use curd on my hair regularly, like maybe once a week, or would that be too much? I just want to find a solution that actually works for me! Any advice would be awesome!

Using curd for hair treatment is quite a popular practice in Ayurveda, and it can indeed be quite beneficial for those dealing with dry and frizzy hair. Curd, or yogurt, is loaded with nutrients that can nourish your hair, making them softer and shinier. It works well in balancing the pH level of your scalp and can help in soothing minor irritation, which might be a consideration if you have a sensitive scalp.

However, you mention having a sensitive scalp, and while curd is generally mild and unlikely to cause irritation, it’s always good to do a patch test first. Apply a small amount of curd on a small area of your scalp, leave it for 10-15 minutes, and observe any reactions. If there’s no irritation, you can proceed to use it on your entire scalp and hair.

For enhanced benefits, you could consider mixing curd with certain other natural ingredients like honey or oils. For example, mixing it with a teaspoon of honey can provide extra hydration. Alternatively, combining it with a few drops of coconut or olive oil could enhance it’s conditioning effect—both are quite nourishing. Preparing a mask with these ingredients can be applied from the roots to tips of your hair, leaving it on for about 20-30 minutes before rinsing thoroughly with a mild shampoo.

Using curd once a week is usually enough; doing so more frequently might not be necessary unless your hair is exceedingly dry. Consistent application over a few weeks could help improve the manageability and texture of your hair.

Although curd is beneficial, it’s essential to focus on your overall lifestyle too. Eating a balanced diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals will greatly support hair health. Ensure you’re drinking plenty of water and considering your hair care regime, like avoiding extensive heat styling or chemical treatments, that can further damage your hair.

In your situation, trying this simple curd mask at home on a weekly basis could be quite worthwhile. Just be gentle with your hair, avoid harsh shampoos, and opt for natural, sulfate-free products to maintain the health of your scalp and hair.
