I am struggling with this hair thing. Recently, I've been trying lots of home remedies because my hair feels super dry and frizzy, ugh! A friend told me about this amazing mix of curd and oils that can really help, but I'm kinda confused. Can I apply curd on oiled hair? Like, does it actually work? I normally oil my hair once a week, usually coconut or olive oil, and then I wash it out. But I've heard if I put curd on oiled hair, it might make my hair feel smoother and moisturized. I tried it once a while back, but wasn't sure if I did it right or if it made a difference. I keep wondering – should I apply the curd after the oil, or maybe mix it? And also, how long should I leave it on for? I really want my hair to be healthy and shiny again, but I don’t want to mess it up even more by doing the wrong things, ya know? Any advice from you all would be super appreciated! Also, if you have tips on how often I should do this or anything else I could add to the mix, that would be awesome too!

Applying curd on oiled hair can be an effective home remedy for dryness and frizz. Curd, or yogurt, is rich in lactic acid which helps in gently exfoliating the scalp and can promote shinier, softer hair. Oil, on the other hand, nourishes by penetrating the hair shaft and helping to retain moisture. However, the method of application is important for maximizing results.

When it comes to applying curd on hair that has already been oiled, it’s quite alright and can actually be beneficial. The curd can work as an additional moisturizer, enhancing the smoothness imparted by the oils. Typically, it’s advisable to apply oil first, let it sit for a couple of hour or overnight, and then apply curd. Here’s a recommended way to go about it:

1. Method: Start by slightly warming your preferred oil, coconut or oliive oil, and massaging it gently into your scalp and through the lengths of your hair. Warm oil increases absorption and enhances circulation in scalp. Ideally, leave it on for at least 1-2 hours.

2. Curd Application: After oiling, take some fresh curd; ensure it’s at a comfortable room temperature, not cold. You can add a bit of honey or a pinch of turmeric to the curd before applying, which also nourishes the scalp and adds shine to the hair. Apply it evenly across your scalp and the entire length of your hair. Gently massage it in.

3. Duration: Let this sit on your hair for about 30-45 minutes. This gives the scalp and hair sufficient time to absorb the nutrients from the curd.

4. Washing Out: Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, ensure all the curd is washed out. Following with a mild, preferably herbal shampoo.

In terms of frequency, you might consider using this treatment once a week or bi-weekly, observing how your hair responds. Adjust according to your hair texture and scalp sensitivity. Incorporating amla powder or fenugreek powder into the curd might help with additional nourishment and conditioning.

Should you experience itchiness or scalp irritation, discontinue immediately and consult with a dermatologist or Ayurvedic physician for personalized advice. While these methods are generally safe, individual sensitivities can vary. Always patch test on a small area first if you haven’t used curd or oils extensively before.
