multani mitti how much time - #39441
I am really curious about using multani mitti for my skin but got so many questions. I started using it a week ago, because my skin has been breaking out like crazy! Like, I’ve tried everything, and I heard from a friend that multani mitti is amazing for clearing up acne. I just mix it with water to make a paste, but I’m not sure if I’m leaving it on long enough, or maybe too long? I left it for like 20 minutes the first time, but my face felt kinda tight and dry after. Now I’m wondering, multani mitti how much time should I actually keep it on? I read conflicting stuff online. Some say 10-15 mins is enough, others say you can go up to 30 mins. I’m worried about making my skin worse. Also, I don’t want to overdo it. Is it okay to use it like every other day or something? My skin's been oily, and I’ve got these stubborn dark spots, and I just really wanna know if multani mitti is gonna help with that, or if I should just stick to my regular moisturizer after? Any advice would be a massive help! Thanks!

Doctors' responses
Using multani mitti, or Fuller’s Earth, for acne is a tried and tested remedy in Ayurveda, beneficial for absorbing excess oil, unclogging pores, and improving skin texture. However, its use should be tailored to your specific needs, especially considering skin type and how it reacts.
For starters, about 10-15 minutes is generally sufficient time to leave multani mitti on your skin. Any longer, particularly for those with sensitive skin, can lead to excessive dryness and tightening. Observing your skin’s response is key. If it feels too tight or dry, reducing the time is wise. The dryness your experiencing after could be due to longer exposure, given multani mitti’s potent oil-absorbing properties.
Given that your skin is oily and you’re aiming to clear dark spots, consider mixing multani mitti not with just water but with some rosewater, which brings toning and calming benefits. Alternatively, adding a few drops of honey may prevent drying too. As always, test a small patch first if you’re trying a new mix.
Every other day might initially seem effective for oily skin, but starting with 2-3 times a week is safer to assess tolerability. Applying an appropriate moisturizer after is vital, ensuring hydration and minimizing potential dryness.
About the stubborn dark spots, multani mitti might help to an extent by renewing the skin’s surface over time. However, maintaining a holistic skincare regimen that includes sun protection is crucial, as well as considering other natural brighteners like turmeric or licorice root powder, known for their skin-toning properties in Ayurveda.
Finally, should irritation persist or worsen, reevaluate its use or combination with other products and consult a professional if necessary. Such steps strengthen skin health while aligning with traditional wisdom and ensuring optimal results without adverse effects.
