can we apply curd directly on face - #39848

Victoria

I am really wondering about something that’s been bothering me lately. A few weeks ago, I started to notice my skin acting a little weird. Like, I've got these dry patches and some redness that won't really go away. A friend mentioned that curd is really good for skin issues, and that got me thinking... can we apply curd directly on face? I tried it once, just a small amount, and honestly, my skin felt kinda nice right after. But then I started to doubt it, ya know? What if I’m making my skin worse? Like, I even read somewhere that some people can get allergic reactions from dairy products. What if I’m one of those people? I want to use natural remedies and stuff, but I don't wanna mess with my face. On top of that, how long should I leave it on? Any hints on specific methods? Also, are there any precautions to take when using curd? Like, I don't want to stained my clothes or something. Anyone got good experiences with this? I'm really hoping for something simple but effective that could maybe help with my skin problems without causing more issues. Can we apply curd directly on face, or should I stick to other options?

Yes, applying curd directly on your face can be beneficial for certain skin types and conditions, according to principles of Ayurveda. Curd is rich in lactic acid, which helps to exfoliate the skin, reducing dryness and redness. It also has cooling and nourishing properties, making it suitable for pitta dosha imbalances that might cause redness or irritation. However, it’s important to ensure that this remedy aligns with your specific prakriti (body constitution) and skin type.

Before you fully integrate curd into your skincare routine, conduct a patch test. Apply a small amount of curd to a small area of your skin, like your wrist or behind your ear. Wait for 24 hours to see if there’s any allergic reaction. If there isn’t, you can proceed with using curd on your face.

For application, take approximately one tablespoon of fresh, plain curd (avoid flavored or processed varieties). Apply a thin layer over your face in gentle circular motions. Leave it on for about 10 to 15 minutes. This duration is often enough for the curd to work its exfoliating and soothing magic without causing any adverse effects. Then, wash it off with lukewarm water and pat dry. Doing this two to three times a week can be beneficial, especially for dry or irritated skin.

As for precautions, wearing an old t-shirt can prevent any staining on your clothes. And it’s best to apply curd when you can relax, lying back to keep it from dripping. Avoid the eye area, as curd can cause irritation there. If you experience a tingling or burning sensation that seems unusual, it might be wise to discontinue use.

Although curd can be effective, if you continue experiencing skin issues like persistent redness or dry patches, it may be rooted in something that requires more comprehensive care. A holistic approach that considers diet, lifestyle, and other topical solutions might be necessary. Also, consider seeking advice from an Ayurvedic practitioner or dermatologist for tailored guidance to manage your skin health safely.
