Hair loss can indeed be distressing, especially when coupled with other issues like dandruff and greying hair. A low B-12 level can contribute significantly to hair problems, and Ayurveda offers ways to help support your hair health alongside monitoring and managing your vitamin levels. Here are some things you might consider:

Diet is crucial when dealing with nutrient deficiencies. To address your vitamin B-12 deficiency, include more B-12 rich foods like dairy products, eggs, and fish into your diet. If you’re vegetarian or vegan, consult with your doctor about supplements, as B-12 is mainly found in animal products.

Dandruff and frizziness can often be a sign of an aggravated Vata dosha, and keeping well-hydrated is excellent but you might also want to add nourishing oils to your daily regimen. Consider massaging your scalp with warm oils like sesame or coconut oil twice a week, leaving it on for a couple of hours before washing.

Herbs such as amla (Indian gooseberry) are very beneficial for hair health. Amla powder can be consumed with water, but also applied as a paste on your scalp for 20-30 minutes before washing. Brahmi and bhringraj oils are also recommended for strengthening hair roots and improving texture.

For reducing greying, try applying henna mixed with amla powder intermittently, it’s natural and won’t damage the hair. You could also include curry leaves in your cooking – they’re known to support melanin and keratin production.

Practicing stress-reduction techniques such as yoga or meditation may also be beneficial, as stress can exacerbate hair loss issues. Prioritize a balanced, nutrient-rich diet, manage stress, and ensure your doshas are balanced to support healthier hair over time.

If you haven’t already, consult with a healthcare provider about addressing your B-12 deficiency comprehensively and ensuring there’s no other underlying condition contributing to your hair concerns.
