Addressing dry and wrinkled skin, especially around the eyes, requires an inside-out approach, blending Ayurveda’s holistic insights with practical steps. Dry skin usually indicates a Vata dosha imbalance. The first focus is on diet and lifestyle. Incorporate warmth in your meals: think cooked vegetables, ghee, and soups. Stay away from cold, dry or raw food, like salads, that could aggravate the dryness. This will help nourish your dhatus and maintain the vital tissue moisture.

Hydration is crucial. Sip warm water throughout the day, and consider herbal teas like chamomile or tulsi, which pacify Vata. Avoid caffeine and alcohol as they can dehydrate the skin even more. In Ayurveda, oils play a critical role. Before a shower, perform ‘Abhyanga’ (self-massage) with warm sesame oil or almond oil, especially on facial areas. This nourishes and lubricates the skin, drawing moisture deep within the tissues.

For the eyes, rose water is calming and hydrating. You can gently dab some onto the eyelids with a cotton pad. Using aloe vera gel can also soothe and hydrate the delicate skin around the eyes. While moisturizing in the morning is good, integrating a night cream or oil could provides added nourishment. Night-time is when the body repairs itself, and kapha elements in heavier oils like castor or coconut can, support this healing.

Also, observe your lifestyle: ensure adequate sleep and manage stress; both can worsen Vata imbalances. Include Pranayama (breathing exercises) to calm the nervous system. The simplest acts like Anulom Vilom can help immensely.

If the condition doesn’t improve, it may be wise to consult with a local Ayurvedic practitioner who can offer detailed analysis of your prakriti and possibly suggest herbal supplements. But remember, any severe skin issue should be promptly checked by a healthcare provider to rule out other potential concerns.
