what is the best cream to treat psoriasis? - #41368

Anna

I am really struggling with my psoriasis, and it's been super frustrating lately. Started like a year ago and I tried a bunch of creams, but nothing seems to work. I mean, my skin just keeps getting itchy and flakey, and the red patches are just horrible. My friend recommended some fancy stuff, but I wonder what is the best cream to treat psoriasis actually? Like, should I be looking for something natural or just go for heavy-duty creams with steroids? I read a lot about different treatments online, but it feels overwhelming. The last cream I tried made my skin feel greasy and did nothing! I even went to a dermatologist who just gave me another cream and said to try it for a month, but guess what? It didn’t help either. I’m not sure if it’s related to my diet or stress or what, but sometimes it flares up when I eat certain foods. I just want to feel comfortable in my own skin again. If anyone knowledgeable could share what is the best cream to treat psoriasis or what has worked for you, I’d really appreciate it! Thanks!

For treating psoriasis a balance between contemporary and traditional treatments can be particularly effective. While corticosteroid creams prescribed by dermatologists are often used due to their anti-inflammatory properties, Ayurveda views psoriasis through the lens of dosha imbalances, particularly focusing on Vata and Kapha disturbances, along with impaired agni (digestive fire). Ayurvedic principles emphasize both internal and external treatment approaches.

For topical application, natural creams containing Mahatiktaka Ghrita could be beneficial. Mahatiktaka Ghrita is a classical Ayurvedic formulation, known for its powerful anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and immune-modulating properties. Applying a thin layer onto the affected areas twice daily can reduce redness, scaling and itching. The application should be gentle to avoid irritation. Look for creams that are free from artificial fragrances and harsh chemicals which can exacerbate the flare-ups.

Internally, it may be helpful to incorporate herbs like Neem (Azadirachta indica) and Turmeric (Curcuma longa) which have purifying and soothing effects on the skin. Neem capsules or tea, and turmeric powder mixed with warm water taken daily can aid in managing symptoms from the inside.

Diet plays a significant role; avoid foods that aggravate Vata and Kapha, such as processed foods, sour and fermented products. Instead, include more ghee, warm, moist, and lightly spiced dishes to strengthen digestion. Balancing your meals with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, especially those high in antioxidants can support overall skin health.

Stress reduction techniques such as yoga and meditation are also crucial, as stress can trigger or worsen psoriasis flare-ups. Regular Pranayama (breathing exercises) may help in reducing stress and balancing the doshas, promoting better skin health.

Remember, while Ayurveda provides a holistic approach, it’s essential to monitor your condition and seek immediate medical attention if psoriasis worsens, or if there are any signs of infection.

The best cream for psoriasis really depends on your individual constitution and the underlying imbalances at play, but from a Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective, focusing on creams with natural ingredients can be especially beneficial. Psoriasis is often associated with an imbalance in the pitta and kapha doshas, leading to inflammation and scaling. So, creams that cool and detoxify the skin while aiding cell repair are ideal.

You might want to try a cream based on ingredients like neem, turmeric, and aloe vera. These are known for their anti-inflammatory and healing qualities. Neem is particularly effective in reducing redness and irritation, while turmeric helps in calming the inflammation. Look for formulations that include these herbs in a base of coconut oil or sesame oil, which can further help to balance pitta and provide moisture without feeling too greasy.

You mentioned diet and stress. Definitely consider creating a personalized food regimen that avoids heat-inducing foods like spicy dishes, alcohol, and fried foods, as they aggravate pitta. Instead, prefer cooling, hydrating foods like cucumber, cilantro, and ghee. Incorporating practices such as meditation or yoga could also help in managing stress, which often triggers flare-ups.

While natural remedies can be beneficial, remember, if symptoms persist or worsen, consulting with a healthcare provider for a coordinated approach, possibly with integrative therapies, is essential. This will ensure a safer and possibly quicker response to your condition.
