how to use reetha powder for hair - #41495

Gabriella

I am really struggling with my hair lately and I've heard about reetha powder and all its benefits for hair. I was at a friend’s place the other day, and she was raving about how she uses reetha powder. To be honest, I’ve never tried it before and I’m kinda confused about how to use reetha powder for hair properly. Is it like a shampoo or do you mix it with something else? My hair is super frizzy and the texture feels rough no matter what I do. I tried different shampoos and even some home remedies, but nothing seems to stick. I even saw some posts online saying that reetha can help with dandruff too, which I get sometimes. Ugh! So, coming back to reetha powder, can I just mix it with water and apply it, or do I need to do some special prep? I think I read somewhere about mixing it with something else but can’t remember if it was like yogurt or something? Also, how often should I be using it? Like every wash or just once in a while? I just want healthy hair again, you know? Any suggestions on how to use reetha powder for hair would be super helpful! Thanks!

Reetha powder, derived from the soapnut tree, is a fantastic natural remedy for hair care, aligned with ancient Ayurvedic practices. It’s renowned for being gentle on the hair while effectively cleansing the scalp. For best results, particularly for frizzy and rough textures, mixing reetha powder with other Ayurvedic ingredients can yield better outcomes.

To use reetha powder effectively: start by making a paste. Take about 2-3 tablespoons of reetha powder in a bowl and gently mix it with warm water until a smooth paste is formed. Let this mixture sit for at least 30 minutes. This step allows the saponins in reetha, which are natural cleansing agents, to activate.

For enhancing effects, consider adding ingredients like amla (Indian gooseberry) powder, which is rich in Vitamin C, contributing towards hair smoothness and shine. If dandruff is a concern, a teaspoon of neem powder can be added for its antibacterial properties. Alternatively, mixing yogurt can be beneficial for added nourishment and moisture, especially for frizzy hair, but make sure to use fresh, unsweetened yogurt.

Once your mix is ready, apply it gently onto your scalp and hair. Massage it in circular motions to ensure it’s well-distributed, letting the paste sit for around 10-15 mins before washing it off with lukewarm water. Avoid using hot water, as it may strip essential oils from your hair, causing dryness.

For frequency, aim to use this treatment about once a week for optimal results. Overuse can potentially dry your hair, given reetha’s potent cleansing properties. Patience is key with Ayurvedic remedies, and with consistent use, you should see improvements in texture and reduced frizziness.

Remember, individual responses may vary. If your hair tends to feel dry after reetha powder use, consider applying a natural oil like coconut or sesame oil to your hair the night before washing. With time and regular care, reetha can be a valuable addition for maintaining your hair’s health and vitality. Just be mindful not to overdo, as balance is essential in Ayurveda practices.
