which rosemary oil is best for hair - #41520

Caroline

I am losing hair like crazy and it's been really stressful especially since my family has thick hair, and I'm kinda the odd one out. I read that rosemary oil is supposed to help with hair growth, but honestly, I’m confused about which rosemary oil is best for hair. I mean, do I need to look for a specific type or brand, or is it just about any rosemary oil that’ll do? Last week I went to a health store and saw a few different options. Some were like pure essential oils and others were blends with other oils. I've tried some herbal shampoos that kinda worked, but I feel like I need more than that. Plus, my scalp is kinda sensitive and I get worried about using something that might irritate it even more. Ugh, it’s such a hassle! I just saw this one online that said it has like 100% pure rosemary oil, but how do I know if that’s the one? I wanna make sure I’m not wasting my money. If anyone here has experience with using rosemary oil—like which rosemary oil is best for hair growth or which brands worked or didn’t work for them, I’d really appreciate any insights. Thanks a ton! Just trying to figure this out before my next salon appointment.

Rosemary oil indeed can be beneficial for hair growth, as it’s known to stimulate blood circulation in the scalp, potentially encouraging hair follicles to grow. When you are selecting rosemary oil, it’s important to distinguish between pure essential oil and blends. For your sensitive scalp, I’d recommend starting with 100% pure rosemary essential oil. However, it must be properly diluted before application. Essential oils, when used undiluted, can irritate sensitive skin. You can mix a few drops of rosemary essential oil with a carrier oil, like coconut or jojoba oil. Coconut oil, in particular, has antimicrobial properties and can offer additional nourishment. Best practice is to use about 3-4 drops of rosemary oil with 1 tablespoon of a carrier oil.

Apply the mixture to your scalp, gently massaging it in with your fingertips to stimulate dilation and absorption into the follicle. Let it sit for about 20 to 30 minutes before you rinse it off with a mild shampoo. You can do this treatment 2-3 times a week. As for commercial brands, opt for those who offer therapeutic-grade or organic rosemary oils, as these are less likely to have additives or impurities that might irritate your scalp.

Some people also find success with blends of rosemary oil mixed with other oils known for hair growth, such as peppermint or lavender. However, given your sensitive scalp, test any new blend on a small patch of skin first to ensure no adverse reaction.

But beyond topical application, consider addressing stress, as it can exacerbate hair loss. Techniques such as yoga or meditation can be beneficial.

If your hair loss persists, it would be wise to consult with a dermatologist or trichologist to rule out underlying conditions. Hair loss can sometimes be signs of nutritional deficiencies or hormonal imbalances, so staying attentive to the body’s signals is key.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
