Doctors' responses

Scalp psoriasis often arises from an imbalance in Pitta and Vata doshas. To address this, adopting a holistic approach rooted in Ayurveda is essential. Start by incorporating aloe vera gel, which acts as a natural moisturizer, directly onto your scalp. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes before washing off to hydrate and soothe the scalp. Alternatively, you can use neem oil, known for its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, apply it gently onto the scalp, leave it overnight, and rinse in the morning.

Diet plays a crucial role in balancing doshas, advocacting a diet that’s cooling and soothing, like consuming foods that have more water content such as cucumbers, melons, and greens. Avoid spicy and oily foods as they can aggravate Pitta. Include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, which help nourish and rebuild hair from within.

In Ayurvedic practice, Panchakarma, particularly Virechana (therapeutic purgation) can be very beneficial, helping to remove accumulated Pitta toxins from the body. Consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner to see if this treatment suits your needs.

Regular scalp massage with warm oils like coconut or sesame oil can improve circulation, thereby reducing hair fall. Make it a routine to massage your scalp with warm oil before bed at least twice a week and wash it off in the morning.

Consider Amalaki (Indian gooseberry), which is renowned for promoting hair health. Consuming Amalaki powder with warm water in the morning, or including it in your diet can strengthen hair follicles, reduce hair thinning, and serve as a natural tonic.

Stress management via practices like yoga and meditation is important as stress can exacerbate symptoms. Ensure you sleep well and maintain a regular sleep schedule to help soothe aggravated Vata and Pitta doshas.

Remember, it is vital to consult a healthcare professional if symptoms persist or worsen, as chronic scalp issues sometimes require personalized medical intervention.
