Doctors' responses

Hair thinning and greying at 45 can be addressed effectively using Ayurvedic principles. Let’s first focus on hair thinning, often linked to pitta imbalance in Ayurveda, which can be aggravated by stress, improper diet, and sleep disruptions.

To mitigate this, start by balancing pitta dosha. Avoid hot, spicy and fried foods that can aggrevate pitta; instead opt for cooling foods like cucumbers, melons, and leafy greens. Incorporate the regular consumption of aloe vera juice, which is cooling and supports hair health.

Regular scalp massage is crucial. Use bhringraj oil or amla oil, both renowned in Ayurveda for promoting hair growth. Warm a small amount of oil, apply it gently on the scalp with circular motions. Do this 2-3 times a week, preferably before bedtime, allowing the oil to nurture hair overnight before washing it off in the morning with a mild herbal shampoo, avoiding chemical-laden products.

For premature greying, regular intake of natural anti-oxidants helps. Amla, rich in vitamin C, serves this purpose well. Consume it in the form of juice or powder alongside meals, supporting pigmentation and strength. Consider including curry leaves in your diet or drink a decoction made from boiling the leaves in water.

Natural coloring can be achieved using henna—known for its conditioning and color benefits. Mix henna powder with tea decoction, a bit of lemon juice or yogurt, and apply as a hair pack. Leave it on for a few hours before rinsing. Applying henna once a month can help with natural coloring.

Remember to manage stress through yoga or meditation, aiding in a more balanced lifestyle that reflects positively on your hair health. If symptoms persist or are severe, consulting a practitioner who can tailor a regimen to your dosha and lifestyle would be advised. Balancing these elements holistically addresses not just the symptom, but the root cause of hair thinning and greying.
