Aloe vera can indeed be a beneficial ally for promoting hair growth and improving thickness, especially when its application is aligned with your unique body constitution, or prakriti, in Siddha-Ayurvedic terms. Aloe vera’s soothing properties help balance Pitta dosha and support healthy hair follicles. Here’s a practical approach for incorporating aloe vera into your hair care routine:
To start, obtain fresh aloe vera gel directly from a leaf, as it’s often more potent than processed products. Cut open a fresh aloe vera leaf, scoop out the gel, and lightly blend it to ensure smooth application. Applying the gel directly to your scalp can be effective, as it provides nourishment, moisturizes, and enhances the health of your hair roots.
It’s recommended to apply aloe vera gel alone or combine it with a warming oil like coconut oil to enhance its hydrating effects. Coconut oil, particularly, supports Kapha and nourishes the sapta dhatus (tissue systems), making it complementary to aloe vera. Mix equal parts of aloe vera gel with coconut oil, and gently massage onto your scalp using your fingertips in circular motions, which can stimulate the nadis or energy channels.
Leave this mixture on your scalp for about 30 to 45 minutes, once or twice a week. This allows sufficient time for the nutrients to penetrate the hair roots, without risking any excess moisture accumulation that could cause imbalance.
If no improvement is noticed or symptoms persist, consulting with a practitioner who understands your doshic constitution in detail might be beneficial. They can identify other potential lifestyle, dietary or underlying causes for the hair thinning. Make sure not to delay professional medical consultation if your hair thinning is rapid or accompanied by other concerning symptoms.
