Doctors' responses

The use of Pinda thailam, although often associated with gout and certain inflammatory conditions, can indeed be beneficial for dry skin allergies due to its cooling and soothing properties on the skin. The formula contains ingredients like manjistha and shweta sariva, which are known to reduce heat or pitta in the skin, providing relief from itching and inflammation. Combining it with Nalpamaradi thailam, which is traditionally used for its nourishing and moisturizing effect due to ingredients like turmeric and sesame oil, enhances its effectiveness for dry skin.

The combination is typically applied to affected areas, gently massaging it into skin, preferable after a warm bath when the skin’s pores are open. This routine can be done once or twice a day. For application, you can use lukewarm thailam, slightly warming it, apply evenly with gentle circular motions.

While these oils can provide symptomatic relief, make sure to drink plenty of warm water and herbal teas like chamomile or mint, which can soothe internally. Also, incorporate moisturizing agents like ghee and oil-rich foods, aligning with your dosha to balance vata, which is responsible for dry and rough skin. Foods that are heavy and grounding, warm and moist in quality, such as cooked cereals, sweet fruits, and oleaginous foods are beneficial.

Avoid foods and activities that can aggravate vata, such as excessive travel, drinking cold beverages, or raw foods. Managing stress with yoga or meditation can also be beneficial in controlling flare-ups as stress is a known trigger for skin conditions. If symptoms persist or worsen, it might be wise to revisit your Ayurvedic doctor to reassess any underlying imbalances.
