where is multani mitti found in india - #42293

Luke

I am really confused about something and hope you all can help me. I just started getting into natural remedies and came across this stuff called multani mitti. I was doing some research since I heard it's good for skin and all that. But then I was wondering, where is multani mitti found in india, like is it just one place or are there multiple spots? I live in Mumbai, and I honestly have no clue if I can just pop into a store and grab some. A friend told me it’s great for oily skin and it help with acne, which I definitely struggle with. My skin gets super oily, especially in this humid weather. I tried a few creams and they just made it worse, ugh!! 😩 I’ve seen some people using it in face masks and they say it works wonders, but if I'm gonna use it, I want to make sure it’s the real deal, you know? Like, I don’t wanna just buy a random product online that claims to be multani mitti and it’s not! Also, I've read a bit about how it can be used for hair as well, but where do I even begin looking for the actual multani mitti? I heard it might be found in certain states, but which ones?? Any tips would really help me out. Thanks!

Multani Mitti, also known as Fuller’s Earth, has a rich tradition in Indian skincare practices, particularly in Ayurveda. Originally, Multani Mitti was named after its place of origin, the city of Multan, which is now in Pakistan. But in India, it’s predominantly sourced from states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, and some parts of Madhya Pradesh. These regions have the particular soil conditions that produce this unique clay.

In Mumbai, you should have no trouble finding authentic Multani Mitti. Look for it in local Ayurvedic shops, which might offer higher quality, pure form. Popular Ayurvedic brands often distribute pre-packaged Multani Mitti, making it accessible at pharmacies or health stores. When you’re purchasing it, ensure it’s pure and not mixed with any additives—authentic Multani Mitti is off-white, slightly yellowish with a smooth texture.

Regarding oily skin and acne issues, Multani Mitti is highly recommended. It’s known to absorb excess oil, cleanse the skin deeply, and naturally cool it. Mix Multani Mitti with rose water to make a paste, and apply it on your face as a mask. Leave it until it dries, then rinse with lukewarm water. You can do this a couple of times a week.

As for its use in hair care, Multani Mitti works wonders in managing oily scalp and dandruff. Mixing it with a bit of water or yogurt forms a paste that can be gently applied to your scalp. Let it sit for about 15 - 20 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. This can be done once a week to see noticeable results.

Purchasing online can also be an option, but ensure you’re getting it from a reliable source — check reviews and seller ratings. If possible, cross-reference brands you find online with those recommended by well-known Ayurvedic practitioners.

Patience and consistency are key with natural remedies like Multani Mitti. While it’s safe for most skin types, do a small patch test on your wrist before full application to ensure you don’t have a sensitivity. Enjoy exploring the benefits it offers, both for skin and hair!

Multani mitti, also known as Fuller’s Earth, is indeed quite beneficial for oily and acne-prone skin due to its absorbing properties. In India, Multani mitti is primarily mined from the northern regions. The most famous source used to be Multan, now in modern-day Pakistan, but within India, it is predominantly found in Rajasthan. Places like the Barmer district have notable deposits.

You should be able to find multani mitti in various local stores even in Mumbai. It’s quite popular in Indian skin care traditions, so many herbal or Ayurvedic shops carry it, often in powdered form. Additionally, many online retailers also sell it, but do make sure to check that it’s labeled as pure multani mitti without any additives.

For usage, especially given your oily skin, consider a simple face pack with multani mitti and rose water. Mixing these can help control oil and clear acne. Apply it once or twice a week and see how your skin responds. If planning to use it in your hair, mixing it with water or curd can help cleanse and reduce oiliness without stripping natural oils.

Remember, it’s always wise (especially with skin concerns) to test any new product on a small patch of skin. If your skin tends to be sensitive, consult with a healthcare or dermatology professional to avoid irritation.

If navigating the marketplace seems complex, sourcing locally from known and reputed sellers in such cases is a good approach, ensuring both quality and authenticity.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
