Open pores can often result from dosha imbalances, particularly when pitta or kapha dosha is aggravated. Start by addressing diet and lifestyle habits, as these play a significant role in skin health. Incorporate more astringent and bitter foods like leafy greens, cabbage, and pomegranate into your diet while reducing oily, and spicy foods which can aggravate pitta and cause oily skin leading to larger pores. Staying hydrated with plenty of water assists in maintaining skin elasticity, which could effectively reduce pore visibility.

A simple DIY remedy involves making a mask with fuller’s earth (multani mitti) and rose water. Apply this mask to your face 2-3 times a week. Multani mitti absorbs excess oil and rose water tones and tightens the skin. Mix it into a paste and apply it evenly over your face, allowing it to dry for about 20 minutes before rinsing it off with lukewarm water. Regular usage can help minimize the appearance of pores over time.

Steam therapy is another approach. Steaming your face once a week opens up the pores, allowing debris and oils to be removed. After steaming, splash your face with cold water or apply an ice cube wrapped in a cloth to tighten the pores back down.

Use a toner with natural astringents. A diluted solution of apple cider vinegar or witch hazel can work as a toner. Use a soft cotton pad to apply it to your face right after cleansing. It helps to balance the skin’s pH and tighten pores.

Lastly, while it’s good you’re maintaining a cleansing, toning, and moisturizing routine, ensure the products you’re using suit your skin’s needs. Opt for lightweight, non-comedogenic formulations for moisturizers and use lukewarm water rather than hot for washing your face. Regular exfoliation should not be overdone; limit it to once or twice a week with a gentle scrub to prevent irritation or over-drying which could exacerbate the problem.
