how to wash hair with multani mitti - #44842

Jack

I am really confused about my hair routine lately. A few weeks ago, I started using Multani Mitti because I heard it's amazing for cleansing and balancing the scalp. But now I am trying to figure out how to wash hair with Multani Mitti properly. Like, am I using it right? I've been mixing it with water and applying it, but my hair still feels kinda greasy afterwards, which is so not what I expected. Last week, I tried keeping it on for longer and I thought it might help, but it just felt more heavy and my scalp is still kinda itchy too, ugh! I thought Multani Mitti is supposed to absorb oil and stuff, right? Do I need to do something special before or after washing it out? Also, I heard some people add aloe vera or honey to their mixture, is that necessary? Does adding stuff change how to wash hair with Multani Mitti? I want my hair to feel light and fresh again, but I'm a bit lost. I read that this could be good for thick hair, but I have thinner strands and I’m just not sure if it’s working for me. If anyone has tips on how to wash hair with Multani Mitti without all these problems, I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

While using Multani Mitti, also known as Fuller’s Earth, can be an effective natural remedy for cleansing the hair and balancing the scalp’s sebum production, there are some nuances to it. Since you mentioned that your hair feels greasy afterwards, there might be a few things to adjust in your routine to get your desired results.

Firstly, it’s important to use the right proportion when making your Multani Mitti paste. Typically, you’ll want to use about 2 to 3 tablespoons of Multani Mitti with enough water to create a smooth, yogurt-like consistency. Avoid making it too thick as this can be hard to rinse out, making the hair feel heavy and greasy still.

Given that your scalp is itchy and your hair greasy, it’s possible that the Multani Mitti isn’t being thoroughly rinsed out, or it’s sitting longer than needed which can lead to residue on the scalp. Aim to leave the mixture on your hair for about 5 to 10 minutes, no longer than that as it might dry out your scalp instead. Massage gently as you apply to encourage absorption.

It might be beneficial to wash it out with lukewarm water thoroughly - making sure all the Multani Mitti is rinsed out properly. After rinsing, you can follow up with an herbal conditioner or a light rinse of diluted apple cider vinegar, which helps restore the pH balance of your scalp and ensure any excess is flushed away.

Adding aloe vera or honey can enhance its moisturizing properties, especially for thinner hair strands. A teaspoon of aloe vera gel or honey to your mix can provide added hydration and can help in soothing the scalp too. It does change the application slightly by making it a more hydrating treatment.

Lastly, remember that not all hair types respond the same way to natural treatments. Since your hair is on the thinner side, you may need to adjust the quantity used and frequency of use because it could be too intense for daily or very frequent application. Maybe try using Multani Mitti once a week to see how your hair reacts.

It’s crucial to evaluate how your hair feels and looks after adjusting these elements. If irritation persists, discontinuing the use or consulting a healthcare professional or an Ayurvedic specialist might be advisable.
