Doctors' responses

For early graying and hair fall, Ayurveda identifies imbalances often related to Pitta dosha. Consider incorporating amla (Indian gooseberry) into your routine, as it’s renowned for promoting hair pigmentation and strength. You can consume amla in several ways: eat it raw if available, or use amla powder mixed with warm water daily. Drinking fresh amla juice is also beneficial, taken every morning on an empty stomach. This potent antioxidant properties of amla help nourish the hair follicles and support natural hair color.

For external application, prepare a hair oil that combines coconut oil with amla powder or dried amla pieces. Warm the oil gently and apply it to your scalp, massaging thoroughly. Leave it on for at least 1-2 hours before washing it off with a mild herbal shampoo. Adding bhringaraj (Eclipta prostrata) to this oil can enhance the effects, as bhringaraj has traditionally been used to support hair color and reduce graying.

In terms of diet, emphasize cooling and light foods to pacify any excess Pitta. Include dark, leafy greens, beetroot, carrots, and seeds like sesame in your meals, as these provide essential minerals and vitamins. Hydration is also crucial: drink at least 2-3 liters of water daily.

Additionally, practicing stress-reducing techniques such as yoga or meditation can aid in balancing your doshas, particularly Pitta. Regular sleep patterns, with a bedtime before 10 p.m., will further support natural healing processes in the body.

For your parents, keep these suggestions adaptable: anyone can benefit from a Pitta-pacifying diet and lifestyle adjustments. Encouraging the use of herbal hair oils and an amla-rich diet might also help in addressing similar concerns they may have. Remember, consistent lifestyle and dietary habits are key in observing desired outcomes.
