Hair fall and premature greying can be managed with Ayurveda, focusing on balancing the body’s doshas and improving hair health from the root. Hairfall is often linked to pitta dosha imbalance, affecting the blood (rakta) and hair (kesha) tissues.

First, address your diet. Incorporate foods that pacify pitta, such as sweet fruits like apples, ripe bananas, and papayas. Eat more vegetables, especially leafy greens. Include cooling herbs like coriander and mint. Avoid spicy, oily and fried foods as they aggravate pitta. Drinking plenty of water helps flush toxins, important for maintaining healthy hair.

Bhringraj (Eclipta prostrata) oil is very effective. Massage your scalp with warm bhringraj oil before bed; it nourishes the scalp and improves the quality of hair. Let it sit overnight and wash in the morning. Similarly, amla (Indian gooseberry), rich in vitamin C, can be consumed daily or used in powder form with water as a hair mask.

Shirodhara treatment, where warm herbal oil is poured in a continuous stream over the forehead, helps calm the mind and promote hair growth. Practice yoga and meditation regularly to manage stress, a factor contributing to hair fall and greying.

For reversing grey hair, although complete reversal is challenging, Ayurveda suggests herbs like Indian gooseberry and false daisy. Consuming amla juice or powder daily can slow down greying. Couple this with a blend of sesame oil and fenugreek seeds for massging the scalp.
