What to do about cloudy urine in the morning for a Vata dominant person? - #53719
Hello. I am 35years old, 1,75m tall and weigh 60kg. Generally I feel in good health, I do yoga and live an active life, and try to incorporate Ayurveda into my life as much as possible. I am vegetarian and I do not eat fish, but do eat egg and cheese occasionally. I live in Europe and in a cold country with not much sunlight. I have a dominant Vata dosha, followed by Pitta, then Kapha. My first urine in the morning seems quite cloudy. It is clear enough to, for example, read a page through the cup containing my urine. But, it seems cloudy compared to my wife’s urine. She has a dominant Pitta dosha. My urine does not have a distinct smell. When I drop a small drop of sesame oil into the cup of urine, the sesame drop spreads out on the surface, but it does not move down. It simply spreads out. The colour of my urine is yellowish/ goldenish, but not a strong or deep yellow. As said, you can see well through it. Overall I feel well, just bothered that my urine is not clear. I do not necessarily feel heavy or sluggish, nor do I feel congested or have a lot of mucus. Any advice on how to clear my urine? Or is some cloudiness okay? Thank you in advance!
Doctors' responses
Mild cloudiness in morning urine, especially when you feel otherwise healthy, is usually normal. Overnight concentration, slight dehydration, or natural salts can make urine appear cloudy. In your case (Vata dominant, cold climate), this is often due to mild dryness and concentration, not necessarily a disease. No need to worry if: No burning, pain, or strong smell No frequency or discomfort Energy and digestion are good To improve clarity: Start your day with warm water (1–2 glasses). Keep hydration steady through the day, but avoid excess at night. Include a little healthy fat (ghee) in diet to balance Vata. Avoid very dry, cold, and processed foods. At home, you can take: Coriander seed water (soaked overnight) 3–4 times a week or Jeera water during the day Chandraprabha vati – 1 tablet once daily after food (optional, short term) This supports urinary clarity and metabolism. If cloudiness increases, or if you notice burning, foul smell, or sediment, then urine test is advised. Otherwise, this level of cloudiness is generally okay. Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)
