Pittantak Ras – Ayurvedic Remedy for Pitta Imbalance and Digestive Health

Written by
Dr. Harsha Joy
Nangelil Ayurveda Medical College
I am Dr. Harsha Joy, and I mostly work with women who are struggling with stuff like hormonal issues, skin flare-ups, hair thinning, or fertility troubles that don't always have one straight answer. Over the years, I’ve realised that real healing doesn’t come from a standard protocol—it comes when you actually sit with a person, understand what their day looks like, how they eat sleep think feel. That’s where Ayurveda makes all the sense in the world to me. My clinical work revolves around women’s health—especially gynecology and infertility care. Many women who reach out to me have tried many things, felt confused or unheard. Whether it’s PCOS, irregular cycles, or just feeling "off" hormonally, I try to look at the root imbalance—agni, ama, ojas—basic Ayurvedic fundamentals that still explain modern conditions better than most charts or labels. Fertility support is something close to my heart... we don’t rush anything. It’s more like—let’s fix the ecosystem inside first. I also work with chronic skin and hair problems. Acne that just won't leave, hyperpigmentation, postpartum hair loss, oily scalp with dandruff... and again, for these too, it’s usually not a skin problem. It’s digestion, stress, sleep, circulation—internal stuff showing up outside. We work with diet tweaks, gut reset, herbs, maybe some lepas or sneha therapy—but always after tuning into what *your* body wants. Outside my clinic I write a lot. I'm part of content teams that simplify Ayurveda into understandable bits—whether it's about hormonal balance or skincare or daily routines. Writing has helped me reach people who aren’t ready to consult but want to start somewhere. And I think that matters too. I don’t believe in intense detoxes or piling on medicines. The work I do is slow, layered, sometimes messy—but that's healing. That’s what I try to offer—whether someone walks in with hair loss or years of failed fertility cycles. Every body has its own story and my job’s just to hear it right. Maybe guide it back home.

Introduction to Pittantak Ras

Pittantak Ras is a traditional Ayurvedic formulation specifically designed to balance Pitta dosha and address conditions arising from Pitta imbalance. This powerful herbomineral combination is widely used to treat a variety of digestive issues, inflammation, and skin disorders linked to excess heat and acidity in the body. Pittantak Ras works by calming the fiery nature of Pitta, promoting digestive health, reducing inflammation, and improving overall vitality. It is especially beneficial for individuals experiencing symptoms like acidity, ulcers, and inflammatory conditions.

Historical Roots & Ayurvedic Significance

In Ayurveda, Pitta dosha is considered to govern the body's metabolic processes, digestion, and heat regulation. When Pitta becomes imbalanced, it can lead to conditions such as acid reflux, gastritis, skin rashes, and irritability. Pittantak Ras has been used for centuries to bring Pitta back into balance, supporting the digestive system and soothing inflammatory conditions. The ancient Ayurvedic texts describe Pittantak Ras as an effective remedy for Pitta-related disorders, offering a holistic approach to restoring balance and promoting overall health.

Key Components & Therapeutic Benefits

1. Herbal and Mineral Composition

Pittantak Ras is composed of a blend of potent herbs and minerals that work synergistically to calm the Pitta dosha. Some key ingredients include:

  • Triphala: A powerful blend of AmalakiHaritaki, and Bibhitaki. Triphala is known for its detoxifying, digestive, and rejuvenating properties.
  • Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia): A rejuvenating herb that strengthens the immune system, reduces inflammation, and supports digestive health.
  • Chandan (Santalum album): Known for its cooling properties, sandalwood helps reduce excess heat and inflammation in the body, particularly in the skin and digestive system.
  • Shuddha Gandhak (Purified Sulfur): Sulfur helps detoxify the body, regulate digestive functions, and relieve symptoms of Pitta imbalance, such as skin issues and gastrointestinal disorders.
  • Bhringaraj (Eclipta alba): A herb that supports liver function, detoxification, and promotes skin health.

2. Balancing Pitta Dosha

The primary benefit of Pittantak Ras is its ability to balance Pitta dosha in the body. By calming excess heat, it helps soothe symptoms like acidity, irritability, and inflammation. The cooling and detoxifying effects of Chandan and Giloywork together to restore harmony within the digestive and skin systems, providing relief from conditions like acid reflux, gastritis, and inflammatory skin disorders.

3. Digestive Health & Acid Reflux Relief

Pittantak Ras is particularly beneficial for individuals suffering from Pitta-related digestive issues, such as acid reflux, indigestion, and bloating. The Triphala blend and Giloy work to enhance digestive function and improve the absorption of nutrients, while also reducing the formation of excess acid. This makes Pittantak Ras an effective remedy for promoting a balanced digestive fire (Agni) and improving overall digestive health.

4. Anti-inflammatory & Skin Health

Pittantak Ras is also highly effective in treating Pitta-related skin issues, such as rashes, acne, and eczema. The combination of ChandanGiloy, and Bhringaraj provides anti-inflammatory and detoxifying properties that reduce redness, swelling, and irritation. By improving skin health and reducing inflammation, Pittantak Ras helps promote clearer, healthier skin.

5. Liver Health & Detoxification

The Shuddha Gandhak in Pittantak Ras helps detoxify the liver and remove toxins (Ama) from the body. This detoxifying effect is crucial for individuals with digestive issues or inflammatory conditions, as it supports the liver’s natural ability to cleanse the body and restore balance. The liver’s role in detoxification and digestion is central to the Ayurvedic approach, and Pittantak Ras enhances its efficiency.

How Pittantak Ras Works: The Science Behind the Remedy

The therapeutic effects of Pittantak Ras come from its carefully chosen ingredients, which work together to balance Pitta dosha and support digestive and liver health. Shuddha Gandhak (purified sulfur) helps regulate the digestive system, while Triphala promotes detoxification. Giloy boosts immunity and reduces inflammation, and Chandan works to cool the body and soothe irritated skin. Together, these ingredients support the body’s natural healing processes, making Pittantak Ras an effective remedy for Pitta-related disorders.

When selecting Pittantak Ras, consider the following:

While Pittantak Ras is generally considered safe when used appropriately, there are a few precautions to keep in mind:
