••From an Ayurvedic perspective, your symptoms point toward a classic manifestation of aggravated Pitta and Vata doshas, with a significant disturbance in your Agni (digestive fire). Here is how Ayurveda views what is happening in your body and a holistic approach to help you heal. ••The Ayurvedic Perspective: Root Cause The Throat Burning & Itching (Urdhvaga Amla-Pitta): The repeated bouts of food poisoning combined with highly acidic carbonated water severely provoked Pitta (heat/acidity) in your stomach. Because your Agni was compromised, food wasn’t digesting properly, leading to Amavisha (reactive digestive toxins). This heated, sour acid is moving upward, irritating the delicate mucosal lining of your throat, which causes that burning, pressure, and itching sensation when you swallow. •••The Hemorrhoids (Arshas): Hemorrhoids are primarily a Vata-Pitta disorder. The pressure and straining during bowel movements indicate Apana Vayu (the downward-moving energy responsible for elimination) is vitiated or blocked. A daily heavy protein diet (like chicken) requires an incredibly strong digestive fire. When your Agni is weak from food poisoning, this heavy protein creates dry, hard, or sticky stools, forcing Apana Vayu to exert upward and outward pressure, swelling the rectal veins. •••The Holistic Healing Protocol To heal both ends of the digestive tract, we need to simultaneously cool the excess Pitta, regulate Vata’s downward flow, and gently rekindle your Agni without adding heat. 1. Dietary Adjustments for Healing While adding fiber from lentils and veggies is a great step, how you eat them matters right now. •••Switch to Easy-to-Digest Proteins: Temporarily reduce your intake of heavy chicken, especially if it is fried or heavily spiced. Instead, fulfill your protein needs with Moong Dal (yellow split mung beans). Moong dal is the most Agni-friendly protein in Ayurveda; it builds tissue without aggravating Pitta or creating gas. •••Modify Your Fiber: Raw veggies will aggravate Vata and cause more gas/pressure. Ensure all your vegetables are well-cooked, soft, and prepared with small amounts of cooling, digestive spices like fennel, cumin, and coriander. •••Coffee & Alcohol: Avoid coffee (especially on an empty stomach) and alcohol entirely for the next few weeks. Both are highly heating (Ushna), sharp (Tikshna), and dry out the colon while inflaming the throat. 2. Soothing the Upper GI & Throat (Pitta Pacification) •••Licorice Root Tea (Yastimadhu): Licorice is highly demulcent, meaning it coats and soothes irritated mucous membranes. Drinking a warm cup of licorice tea 20 minutes before meals will create a protective barrier in your throat and stomach lining, reducing the itching and burning. ••Fennel-Coriander Water: Soak 1 teaspoon of fennel seeds and 1 teaspoon of coriander seeds in a cup of water overnight. Strain and drink it at room temperature in the morning. This is an incredibly cooling remedy for internal heat. 3. Healing the Colon & Hemorrhoids (Vata Regulation) •••Psyllium Husk (Isabgol) with Warm Milk or Water: To soothe the hemorrhoids, the stool must be completely effortless to pass. Take 1-2 teaspoons of organic psyllium husk in a glass of warm water or warm milk at bedtime. This adds bulk and lubrication, ensuring Apana Vayu flows smoothly without straining. •••Amla (Indian Gooseberry): Amla is unique because it is highly cooling to Pitta but also regulates bowel movements and strengthens the blood vessels (veins) around the rectum. You can take 1 teaspoon of Amla powder with water twice a day. •••Local Relief (Sitz Bath): Sit in a tub of warm water for 15 minutes daily. You can add a decoction of Triphala powder to the water, which acts as an excellent astringent and anti-inflammatory agent to shrink the hemorrhoidal tissue. •••An Important Note on Agni: Healing takes time because the gut lining needs to regenerate. Avoid drinking cold water with your meals, as it douses your digestive fire. Stick to warm or room-temperature water.
Your symptoms suggest that the stomach and throat may still be recovering from the severe digestive upset you experienced a few months ago. The persistent throat pressure and itching may be due to acid reflux (including silent reflux), chronic throat irritation, allergies, or stress-related throat muscle tension. ----For now, avoid coffee on an empty stomach, alcohol, spicy foods, fried foods, and late-night meals. Drink plenty of water and avoid lying down immediately after eating. Continue a high-fiber diet with vegetables, fruits, and lentils, and maintain adequate hydration. ----Regarding the hemorrhoids, healing can take time. Avoid straining during bowel movements, do not sit on the toilet for prolonged periods, and continue taking sufficient fiber and fluids. Warm sitz baths may help reduce discomfort. Since the throat symptoms have persisted for more than three months, an ENT or —Gastroenterology consultation is recommended for further evaluation. Investigations such as throat examination (laryngoscopy), assessment for acid reflux, and routine blood tests may be required if symptoms continue. —Seek medical attention sooner if you develop difficulty swallowing, persistent hoarseness, unexplained weight loss, significant rectal bleeding, or worsening symptoms. ----Suggested Investigations: CBC ENT Examination / Laryngoscopy GERD/LPR Evaluation Stool Examination (if bowel symptoms recur) Thyroid Profile (if throat pressure persists) Upper GI Endoscopy -----Rx: 1) Avipattikar Churna – 3 g with lukewarm water BD before meals 2) Kamdudha Ras (Moti Yukta) – 1 tab BD after meals 3) Yashtimadhu Vati – 1 tab to suck slowly TDS 4) Triphala Churna – 5 g with lukewarm water at bedtime HS 5) Arshoghni Vati – 2 tabs BD after meals 6) Jatyadi Taila (local application) Apply externally over hemorrhoidal area BD —Pathya (Diet & Lifestyle): Take warm, freshly prepared meals. Increase vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and adequate water intake. Avoid excessive coffee, alcohol, carbonated drinks, spicy, fried, sour, and processed foods. Avoid late-night meals and lying down immediately after eating. Do not strain during bowel movements. Sitz bath with warm water for 10–15 minutes once or twice daily.
Your symptoms suggest persistent throat irritation, possibly related to acid reflux, gastritis, or post-inflammatory changes after repeated stomach infections. Hemorrhoids may be healing slowly due to ongoing bowel strain, exercise-related pressure, or incomplete correction of digestion. Take For throat irritation and burning: Yashtimadhu (Licorice) Churna 2 g with warm water twice daily after food. Avipattikar Churna 3–5 g at bedtime with warm water for 4–6 weeks. Avoid coffee on an empty stomach, alcohol, spicy foods, carbonated drinks, and late-night meals. For hemorrhoids: Triphala Churna 3–5 g at bedtime with warm water. Abhayarishta 15–20 ml with equal water after meals twice daily. Sitz bath with warm water for 10–15 minutes twice daily. Diet: Increase vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and water intake. Avoid excessive straining during bowel movements. Reduce heavy weight lifting temporarily if it worsens hemorrhoidal symptoms. Dr RC BAMS MS
