4 Easy-to-make Immune-Boosting Ayurvedic Drinks

द्वारा लिखित
Dr Sujal Patil
Gomantak Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya & Research Centre
I am an Ayurveda practitioner with 14+ years in the field... kind of feels surreal sometimes, coz I still learn somthing new every week. Most of what I do is rooted in the classics—Charaka, Sushruta, the texts never fail—but I also believe in using whatever modern tools help make things more precise, especially when it comes to diagnosis or tracking progress. I’m not the kind to over-medicate or go for a one-size-fits-all plan. Never made sense to me. Each case is unique, and I treat it that way. What I mostly focus on is getting to the actual cause, not just calming symptoms for now n watching them come back again. That means a lot of time goes into diet correction, lifestyle resets and explaining things in a way that patients *actually* get what’s happening in their body. I like seeing patients get involved in their own healing, not just follow prescriptions blindly. Sometimes we even manage chronic stuff with minimal meds—just by adjusting food patterns n metabolism slowly back to normal. That part honestly makes me feel most connected to why I chose Ayurveda in the first place. Over the years I’ve treated all kinds of conditions—gut issues, metabolic imbalance, hormonal shifts, skin flareups, even some tricky autoimmune cases. Clinical practice keeps me grounded but I also keep an eye on research. Evidence matters. I’ve published and presented a few times, nothing flashy—just real data from real work. I use that to fine-tune protocols, esp around Panchakarma and Rasayana, which I use often but only where it fits right. End of day, I just want to offer safe and effective care without side-effects. Ayurveda can do that, if you understand the person as a whole—not just as a diagnosis. If you ask me, that’s what makes it timeless.

A healthy body and mind make one’s life extremely productive and fulfilling. Our immunity plays the biggest role in ensuring that our body remains healthy. In modern society, maintaining a healthy body has become a great challenge due to  the hectic work schedule and lack of time to build immunity. There are many ways to build up immunity and Ayurveda is one such effective and holistic method in building immunity. The herbs and drinks help boost your immunity with Ayurveda as they provide the required components that help with the building of immunity. These drinks, with Ayurveda treatment , help build a strong immune system that  can protect the body from diseases and build a balanced and holistic life. These ayurvedic drinks are designed to strengthen immunity and overall health.

Some of the drinks that help boost your immunity with Ayurveda are:

YUSHA (Medicated Soup)

Yusha is the watery portion drained after cooking pulses. Green gram is a standard pulse but other types of pulses also can be used. Salt, ghee or other oils, pepper, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, etc. may be added to obtain the desired taste and benefit.

Ingredients Quantity
Green gram 50 gm
Water 300 ml
Salt 5 gm
Pepper as per taste
Oil/ghee 10 ml
Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon
Fenugreek seeds 6 to 8 seeds
Curry leaves 5-10
Lemon juice 1 teaspoon

Total Quantity: 2 bowls (400ml)

Method of preparation

  • Cook the green gram take the substrate and season with salt.
  • Dry roast some peppers, grind them then add them to the substrate.
  • Simmer for 3 minutes then add Mustard, Fenugreek, and Curry leaves to taste.
  • Add lime juice to taste. Yusha, or delectable soup, is ready.
  • Add Coriander, Ajwain (Carom seeds), Trikatu powder, and Garlic to taste and availability.
  • Trikatu is a medicinal formulation made from Dry ginger, Black pepper, and Long pepper.

Yusha is a nourishing drink that is also used as an adjuvant or vehicle (Anupana) with medications. Because of the green gram and thymol in Ajwain, it is simple to digest and less prone to induce bloating, indigestion, and gas, and it may be taken post-surgery and post-delivery to satisfy protein demands when digestion is poor.

RASALA (Medicated Curd)

Curd, when churned with sugar and spices such as pepper, is known as Rasala.

Ingredients Quantity
Fresh curd 1 cup (150 ml)
Pepper powder 1/2 teaspoon (3 gm)
Jaggery/sugar 10 gm (2 teaspoons)
Salt 1/2 teaspoon (2 gm)
Butter/ghee 1 teaspoon
Mustard 1 teaspoon
Fenugreek 1/2 teaspoon (3 gm)
Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon (3gm)
Crushed red chilli 1 or 2, as per taste
Curry leaves 5 to 6

Total Quantity: 1 glass (200-250 ml)

Preparation method

  • Fresh curd is combined with Pepper, Jaggery, and salt with a blender or typical churning.
  • Heat ghee in a pan.
  • Sputter Mustard seeds and add Fenugreek seeds, Cumin seeds, Red chilies, and Curry leaves.
  • Season the dish with salt once it’s cooled.

This dish is revitalizing, appetizing, carminative, probiotic, and strength-promoting. It is best taken in the summer and fall. It is beneficial for overall weakness and emaciation.

Contradiction

Cold, fever, swelling, oedema, and other respiratory illnesses.

Kharjuradi Mantha (Energy Drink)

Mantha means mashed or well-blended. The drink which is prepared by churning or blending the ingredients well and diluting them with cold water is known as Mantha.

Ingredients Quantity
Seedless grapes 30 gm
Soft dates 20 gm
Puffed paddy (laja) roasted 3 teaspoons (15 gm)
Jaggery 10 gm
Cold water 300 ml

No of Servings: 2 glasses (400 ml)

Method of preparation

  • In a mixer grinder, combine everything, then add cold water to it and stir thoroughly. </
  • Before mixing, soak the components in the needed amount of water for an hour to improve the results.

It can be used as an energy booster for people who have poor intestinal health, are dehydrated, or are tired. It’s high in iron, making it ideal for post-surgery, anemic individuals, and pregnant women. It is high in electrolytes such as potassium, magnesium, and calcium and serves as a quick energy source as well as a bodily coolant. Vitamin B6 is abundant. It is gluten-free, making it an excellent choice for celiac disease flare-ups, and its high fiber content makes it a good choice for colitis and hemorrhoids.

Because of the high glycemic index, it is not recommended for diabetics. Because puffed rice is high in carbs, overconsumption may contribute to obesity.

Mamsa Rasam (Medicated Mutton Soup)

Ingredients Quantity
Mutton (legs of goat only) 200 gm
Pippali or black pepper 10 gm
Yava, Barley,

(Hordeum vulgare)

Dry Ginger 10 gm

No. of Servings: 2-3 soup bowls (500-600ml)

Preparation method

  • Small chunks of mutton along with powdered barley, horse gram, and dry ginger should be cooked in 750ml water before being reduced to 200ml.
  • After cooling, filter.

Health Advantages

It nourishes the body by enhancing metabolism and taste. Because of the inclusion of glucosamine, hyaluronic acid, and chondroitin, it is a protein supply, and mineral reservoir, and soothes joint discomfort. It boosts the immune system because of the inclusion of amino acids such as proline, arginine, and glutamine. It contains several amino acids, including cystine, histidine, and glycine, as well as compound-L-Glutamine, which may alleviate inflammation.

Precaution

Assess the digestive capacity of  the patient before administering mutton recipes.
