In Ayurveda, dark circles or black patches around the eyes are often classified under Vyangya (hyperpigmentation) or associated with a localized vitiation of Vata and Pitta Doshas, combined with Rakta Dhatu Dushti (impurity in the blood tissue). The skin around the eyes (Netra Koshtha) is incredibly delicate, making it highly susceptible to stress, poor microcirculation, and accumulation of metabolic toxins (Ama) 1.Kumkumadi Tailam: This is the gold standard in Ayurveda for facial hyperpigmentation. •Application: Take 2–3 drops of authentic Kumkumadi Tailam, apply it gently around the eyes using the ring finger (which exerts the least pressure), and massage in a circular motion for 2–3 minutes before bedtime. Leave it overnight and wash with lukewarm water in the morning. 2.Yastimadhu & Rakta Chandana Lepa: Preparation: Mix equal parts of Yastimadhu (Licorice) powder and Rakta Chandana (Red Sandalwood) powder with fresh raw milk or cucumber juice to form a smooth paste. •Application: Apply a thin layer around the eyes, leaving it on for 15 minutes. Wash it off before it completely dries out to prevent stretching the skin. 3.Pitta Shamana & Rasayana: Amalaki Rasayana or Avipattikar Churna (if she experiences acidity or constipation) helps regulate digestion and eliminates the Ama (toxins) that contribute to skin dullness. •Ahara (Diet): Favored: Include sweet, bitter, and astringent tastes. Give her fresh seasonal fruits (especially Pomegranates and Amla), green leafy vegetables, and adequate water. •Avoid: Excessively spicy, salty, sour, fermented, and stale food (Pitta-vardhaka ahara). •Vihara (Lifestyle): Nidra (Sleep): Ensure she gets 7–8 hours of sound, uninterrupted night sleep. Ratri Jagarana (night awakening) is a primary cause of Vata-Pitta vitiation leading to dark patches. •Screen Time: Minimize prolonged exposure to digital screens, which strains the Aloka Pitta.
Sun exposure-related periorbital hyperpigmentation is common and usually improves slowly with consistent care. First step is strict sun protection—avoid direct sun, use sunglasses, and apply sunscreen daily around face (as advised by dermatologist). No rubbing or harsh scrubbing. Kumkumadi taila – very light application at night around affected area Aloe vera gel – thin layer morning and evening Manjistha churna – ½ tsp with warm water once daily Also ensure good sleep and hydration, as fatigue can worsen darkening.
