Duphalac is effective but not ideal for long-term use. To taper off: Gradually reduce the dose over 2–3 weeks while introducing natural remedies (ghee, fiber, fruits). Monitor stool consistency — if constipation worsens, slow down the taper.

Ghee at night should be safe, but if your child already has reduced appetite, cough or is feverish it’s pachan wouldn’t happen very well. Gradually reduce the dosage of laxative and simultaneously let her take indukantam ghrta 5gm in the mornings on empty stomach when the child starts feeling hungry. It will improve her metabolism. Also use rajanyadi choorna 3 gm twice daily before food this will ensure her digestive powder stays good and bowel movements smooth.

----Giving ghee with lukewarm water at night usually doesn’t cause cough, though giving it right before bed can sometimes trigger mild irritation if your child already has a cold. For constipation, focus on fiber-rich foods, plenty of water, and physical activity. You can gradually reduce Duphalac now that she’s on it for 3 months—cut the dose in half for a few days, then stop if her stools stay soft. Try to make bowel movements a routine after meals.

-Ghee with warm milk: Instead of plain water, mix ½–1 tsp ghee in warm milk at bedtime. This is gentler and less likely to trigger cough. -Dietary support: Add papaya, soaked raisins, figs, and ripe banana in moderation. Whole grains like oats or moong dal khichdi help regulate bowels. -Hydration: Warm water through the day, not just at night. -Massage: Gentle clockwise abdominal massage with warm sesame oil improves bowel movement. -Routine: Encourage toilet time after breakfast daily to train bowel habits.

✓Safe & effective alternatives for constipation Warm water with ½ tsp honey (if >1 year) – give 100–150 ml at bedtime (hydrates & softens stool gently) Soaked 1 fig (anjeer) – soak overnight in warm water and give child to eat + drink the water in morning Raisins (kishmish) – 3 soaked raisins in morning Triphala powder – 250–500 mg (¼–½ tsp) at night with warm water/honey (very gentle, non-habit forming – start low) ✓How to stop Duphalac after 3 months Do not stop suddenly just taper slowly over 2–3 weeks Week 1: reduce to half dose every night Week 2: half dose alternate nights Week 3: stop completely Replace with above natural options during tapering If constipation returns then go back to half dose for 3–4 days then taper again ✓Daily routine for both cough prevention & constipation No ghee at night in cold season Warm water sip throughout day (small amounts frequently) Light massage on abdomen clockwise with warm sesame oil 5 min at night (helps bowel movement without Kapha increase) Avoid cold drinks, ice-cream, curd at night Regards Dr Gursimran Jeet Singh MD Panchakarma

Ghee and lukewarm water will not cause cough, if ghee is pure and should be cow’s ghee., instead of water can put in a cup of warm haldi doodh, that will help also for cough. For constipation Duphalac gradually reduce and stop. You can give Banana, or dates, fig, black currant, rasin soaked in a cup of warm water overnight morning make smoothie and give slowly to drink. Include fresh green vegetables in her diet, like spinach, methi leaves … which are natural laxatives. Give livomyn syrup 1/2tsp. Twice daily, will improve digestion.
