Hi! I’m an assistant to the Ask Ayurveda doctors. I’ve carefully reviewed your question.

I will explain your symptoms through the Ayurvedic perspective so you understand what is happening in your body as a whole.

Constipation is often linked to an imbalance in Vata dosha, which governs movement and elimination in the body. When Vata is aggravated, it can lead to dryness and irregularity in the colon, resulting in constipation. Daily use of water enemas may provide temporary relief but can also disrupt the natural function of the bowels over time.

In Ayurveda, we view the body as a whole, and constipation is often a sign of systemic imbalance. This could be related to your diet, hydration levels, or lifestyle habits, which may not be supporting your digestive health optimally.

To give doctors a precise and effective treatment plan, your answers to the questions below are essential. Without this information, the recommendations will be more general and less accurate.

Please answer each question as clearly as possible.

1. How long have you been experiencing constipation? 2. Have you tried any other treatments for constipation? 3. What is your typical daily water intake? 4. Can you describe your daily diet, particularly your intake of fiber-rich foods? 5. Do you notice any specific triggers that worsen your constipation, such as certain foods or stress? 6. How regular is your sleep, and do you experience any sleep disturbances? 7. Have you noticed any changes in your bowel movements over time, such as consistency or frequency?

–Daily water enema for years is not safe. It can make the bowel dependent, irritate the intestine, and worsen constipation over time. Better approach: increase water (2–2.5 L/day), take fiber (like isabgol), regular toilet routine, and walking. Since your constipation is chronic - tell me about your sleep, diet habit , any addiction, exercise pattern?
