How to treat constipation and high ammonia levels in my son with cerebral palsy and a tracheostomy? - #54341
My son who has celebral palsy is a tracheostomy patient feeding is through peg tube.he is bed ridden .l give him pan 40 tablet every morning. Few days back he had vomiting in the morning after giving Pan 40, after sometime I had given him ragi so that also he vomitted and he it got aspirated in the lungs so I had to take him to the hospital because he was not taking his feeds to put him on drips. Doctors admitted him in ICU because of aspiration and that evening he was given only NS so next day we are started with the feeding. I used to give him cramaffin plus syrup every alternate day 5 ml for his motions and that same day when he vomited that early morning 3 o'clock l had given him syrup and that that day he was supposed to pass motions which she didn't pass then later when he was hospitalized that night also again I had given him cramaffin plus syrup 5 mlat 12 o'clock at night but he didn't pass because maybe because of the food whatever he was getting it was very thin and maybe it was different from what I give him at home and then again next day l had given him 6 ml still he did not pass motions, again the surgery doctor ask me to give in 15ml that also didn't work later when is blood test was done his ammonia level was very high it was 218. Later the doctor from the medicine ward asked to give him a duphalac enema and that worked after which his ammonia level had come down little bit it had come to 155 and then again he asked to give lactolose syrup in the morning which I had given 30 ml and that night he had passed motions.the the treatment is duphalac syrup with rifagut tablets.he is not passing motions with duphalac syrup now .l used to give him cramaffin plus syrup earlier which l can't give now because of high ammonia.so I wanted to try ayurvedic medicine

Since your son is fed through a PEG tube and has high ammonia levels, the goal is to use medicines that are gentle yet effective enough to prevent the “backup” that causes ammonia to spike. Rx 1.Avipattikar churna 1/2 tsp diluted in water twice daily after meals 2.Gandharvahastadi Castor Oil 1 tsp with warm milk or water at bedtime 3.Abhyarishta 10 ml diluted in 20 ml water twice daily after meals 4.Triphala churna in 1 cup of warm water at night Supporting Gut Health & Ammonia Control -Takra (Medicated Buttermilk): If his PEG tube feed allows, fresh buttermilk processed with roasted cumin (Jeera) and a pinch of rock salt -Warmth: Always ensure that any water or liquid feed given through the PEG tube is lukewarm. -Abdominal Massage: Gently massage his abdomen in a clockwise direction using warm sesame oil or Mahanarayan Oil.
I consulted an ayurvedic doctor.she priscribed virecha capsule one at night, digestol liquid 10 twice a day.l m scared to give virecha because of side effects
Don’t worry it’s not like that virechan which is performed in panchkarma ipd…it is nitya virechan which can be easily performed at home and there are no side effects
It’s like mild purgation
Thanks doctor. But what about Digestol liquid. Is it safe for patients with stomach ulcer.l think it doesn’t suit my son as he had acid reflux.
If this causing any issue then it’s better avoid this
