How to treat fullness in the throat area after goiter diagnosis and weight gain in my 60s? - #54385
Help please! Natural holistic help with tightening fullness in my throat area. 6 yrs ago diagnosed goiter with nodules. over 3 months scans, biopsies nodules did not grow, and no symptoms. Upon fulness I started 10 drops of iodine and 200 mg selenium with Brazil nuts daily. the fulness is gone but I am concerned. I loss insurance and have been treating myself. Clinics are not available. 6 weeks ago I realized I have gained a 20 lbs in 2 months. I believe its caused from the thyroid. I have always had stable weight. I heard that 3,5,3′-triiodothyronine could help. I need labs, check T3. I don't have money for private doctor, what else can I do? I am female in late 60's. Thank you very much. Gracie

Your situation needs a careful approach — not self-experimentation, especially with thyroid. Important first point: Do NOT take iodine drops or T3 hormone on your own Excess iodine can actually worsen thyroid imbalance and nodules What your symptoms suggest: Throat fullness → goiter/nodular thyroid pressure Rapid weight gain → possible hypothyroid shift Stress also contributing What you should do (low-cost practical plan): 1. Stop self-medication Stop iodine drops for now Continue selenium only in low dose (50–100 mcg/day max) 2. Basic tests (try low-cost options / camps) If possible, get at least: TSH Free T3, Free T4 (These are essential before any hormone use) 3. Diet support Avoid: Raw cabbage, cauliflower, soy (in excess) Processed foods Prefer: Warm cooked food Adequate protein Use iodized salt in normal quantity (no excess) 4. Ayurvedic support (safe, gentle) Kanchanar Guggulu – 1 tablet twice daily after food Varunadi kwath – 15 ml twice daily These help in glandular swelling + metabolism balance 5. Routine Gentle neck exercises Regular walking Proper sleep (very important for thyroid) When to seek urgent care: Difficulty swallowing Breathing issues Rapid increase in neck swelling About T3 (triiodothyronine): Do NOT start without lab confirmation — wrong use can cause heart issues. Expectation: Weight and fullness improve gradually over 6–8 weeks once thyroid stabilizes. If you can share even one report (TSH), I can guide more precisely. Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)
