How to treat chronic headaches and missed periods at age 40? - #54468
I have had a chronic headache or migraine for fifteen years now. I don’t know what to call it, but earlier I used to get it twice a week, and now since 2020 it happens daily. And for that I have to take a painkiller. I take half a tablet of Headset and that gives me relief. Once every six to eight months I also have an episode of vomiting. On other days, even when I wake up after sleeping, I still have a mild headache until I take the medicine — it doesn’t get better otherwise. And I don’t get my periods without medicine. And I am forty years old.

From an Ayurvedic view, this condition looks like Ardhavabhedaka (migraine-type headache) mainly due to Vata and Pitta imbalance along with possible Ama (toxins) accumulation. Long-term use of painkillers can further disturb Vata and make the headache chronic. Irregular or absent periods suggest Artava dhatu imbalance, which is often linked with hormonal and Vata disturbance. The treatment focus is on balancing Vata-Pitta, improving digestion, and gentle detoxification along with lifestyle correction. ----Treatment Plan 1. Shamana Chikitsa -Saraswatarishta – 20 ml with equal water after meals, twice daily -Pathyadi Kwath – 20 ml twice daily before food -Godanti Bhasma – 125 mg with honey, once daily (morning) -Avipattikar Churna – 3 g at bedtime with warm water -Brahmi pearl cap– 1 cap twice daily after meal 2. Panchakarma Therapy –Nasya Karma – Anu Taila (2-3 drops) once daily for 7 days -Shirodhara – Takra or Ksheerabala Taila, 7 sittings 3. Pathya (Diet & Lifestyle) Avoid: fasting, spicy food, fermented items, caffeine, day sleeping Follow: light warm meals, ghee in moderation, adequate hydration Maintain regular sleep cycle Stress management (yoga / pranayama – Anulom Vilom, Sheetali) 4. Follow-up –Review after 15 days
