How to balance extreme dryness in skin due to vata imbalance and pranayama? - #54606
Namaskaram, About 4 months ago, a vata imbalance arose that mainly caused drought, cold, and constipation. I suspect because of a lot of pranayama. Warm, moisture-rich meals, hot drinks, and triphala make things better. Yet I now have extreme dryness in the face, hands, and feet, and sometimes dry bowel movements. Which is special since I am pitta dominant by birth. I also use castor oil in the navel before bed. In addition, mahamash oil over the pelvis and lower back area to support an injury and aroghavardhini vati & punarnavadi mandoor as a blood/liver/digestion improver. My question: how do I get the extreme dryness in balance on the skin? Thank you, Michèle

Your presentation is clear Vata vriddhi (ruksha, sheeta) over a Pitta prakriti. Focus on snehana (internal + external oleation) and gentle Vata-anulomana. Internal medicines (dose) Mahatikta Ghrita or plain Go-ghrita – 1 tsp twice daily with warm milk Ashwagandha Churna – 3 g twice daily with milk Shatavari Churna – 3 g twice daily with milk Gandharvahastadi Taila – 5 ml at bedtime with warm milk (adjust to keep stools soft) External (skin care): Abhyanga with Ksheerabala Taila or Bala Ashwagandhadi Taila – daily before bath For very dry areas: apply sesame oil or ghee twice daily Avoid excess use of hot water and harsh soaps Diet Warm, unctuous foods: milk, ghee, sesame, soaked almonds, rice, moong dal Add 1–2 tsp ghee in meals Avoid dry, raw, cold foods and excess fasting/pranayama
