You can still support your husband’s condition in a meaningful and hopeful way while being mindful of his diabetes mellitus and vascular dementia Brahma Rasayanam is a very good rejuvenative for memory and strength and its intention suits his condition but because of the high sugar base it is better to avoid regular use or keep it only in very minimal monitored quantity A better and safer option here is to use Brahmi Pearls which provide the benefits of Brahmi in a concentrated form without adding any sugar load and can support memory clarity and cognitive function in a more controlled way Along with this Mandukaparni can also be considered for improving brain circulation and slowing degeneration and small doses of Kalyanaka Ghrita can help in nourishing the nervous system and calming aggravated vata which is responsible for the slowing of movements Regular gentle oil application with warm sesame oil over the body will also support circulation reduce stiffness and gradually help in maintaining better mobility

No not recommended to diabetes patient due to jaggery and honey. It increases blood sugar level ●The Importance of Diet in Diabetes According to Ayurveda, if the diet is not correct, even the best medicine cannot show its full effect. In diabetes, The purpose of diet is to: • Prevent the increase of phlegm • Reduce fat • Stabilize the digestive fireWhat to eat (grains and pulses) Dietary grains: • Wheat in limited quantities. Dietary pulses: • Mung bean, gram, pigeon pea • Barley, kodo, and savanna • Old rice (Shashtik Shali) • Horse gram (Kulathi). These grains are considered light, rough, and anti-phlegm and fat. Avoid new grains. What to Eat (Vegetables) Bitter and astringent vegetables: • Bitter gourd • Fenugreek, pointed gourd, drumstick • Radish, cucumber • Bottle gourd, ridge gourd, spinach • Leafy vegetables: These vegetables gently balance the phlegm and fat in the body. What to drink (drinks) Dietary drinks: • Buttermilk • Lukewarm water • Triphala water Kushodak/Sarodak (as advised by a doctor) Sweet drinks, packaged juices • Cold water Avoid sugary drinks. ●What should be limited/avoided? Sweets • White flour • Fried food • Excessive oil • Yogurt (at night) • Potatoes, sweet potatoes Excessive fruit (especially sweets) Diabetes requires balance, not abstinence. ●The Principle of Multi-Medicine Formula Multi-medicine combinations are considered more effective in treating diabetes than single medications, because they simultaneously act on: • Kapha-Meda • Agni • Dhatu • Srotas ●Herbs Used (Composition) 25 grams each: • Bitter gourd seeds, Gudmar • Wild jamun seeds, Neem, Giloy, Ashwagandha • Neem bark, Belpatra • Triphala, Turmeric • Special ingredients: • Pure Shilajit - 50 grams • Trivanga Bhasma - 12 grams This combination is chosen for phlegm-absorption, ama-reduction, and metal balancing. ●Quantity and ratio Normal quantities • 2 to 3 gm 1 or 2 times a day Drinking (with): • Warm water or takra (buttermilk) Time: • Before meals or as directed by the doctor The amount varies according to the nature, age and disease state of the person. Taking Brahmarasayanam for a patient with both diabetes and vascular dementia requires very careful consideration, primarily due to its traditional preparation. The Sugar Concern (Diabetes) You are correct to be concerned about the sugar content. Brahmarasayanam is a “Lehyam” (herbal jam), and its traditional preparation involves significant amounts of: Sugar (Sarkara) Honey (Madhu) Jaggery For a diabetic patient, even a small dose can cause a sharp spike in blood glucose levels. While some manufacturers offer “sugar-free” versions, the traditional formulation is generally not recommended for those with poorly controlled diabetes unless specifically managed by an Ayurvedic physician alongside insulin or oral medications. Benefits for Vascular Dementia & Movement In Ayurvedic theory, Brahmarasayanam is a Medhya Rasayana (nootropic/brain tonic). It is used to: Support Cognitive Function: It contains herbs like Brahmi and Sankhapushpi, which are studied for their neuroprotective properties. Manage “Vata” Imbalance: From an Ayurvedic perspective, slowed movement and cognitive decline are often seen as Vata disorders. The nourishing, “heavy” quality of a Rasayana can sometimes help ground these symptoms. However, in Vascular Dementia, the root cause is restricted blood flow to the brain (often due to small strokes or damaged blood vessels). While the herbs in the jam might support brain health, they do not “fix” the underlying vascular damage. Safer Alternatives If you are looking to support his memory and movement without the risk of high sugar, you might discuss these sugar-free Ayurvedic options with his doctor: 1. Brahmi Ghrita: This is Brahmi infused in medicated ghee. It provides the cognitive benefits of Brahmi without the sugar. 20 ml morning empty stomach with warm water 2. Manasamitra Vataka: These are tablets often used for neurological and cognitive support. 2 tablets twice a day morning evening after food. 3. Saraswatarishta (Gold-free/Sugar-free): Usually available in liquid form; check for preparations that use less sugar or honey. 15 ml twice a day after food with equal quantity of water.

Brahmarasayanam if to be taken has longer period of taking medicine, and it contains high sugar content, which is not advisable for diabetics to take every day and for so long. Instead can use Manasmitra vatikam 1-0-1 after food with water Brahmi capsules 1-0-1 at bedtime with water Light Head massage with Brahmi oil. Include walnut, almond in diet daily. Do Nasya with Brahmi grith 2 drops in both nostril twice daily. Do pranayam lom -vilom bhastrika bhamri 5-10mins twice daily. Some of the medicine recommended can be bought here, with 10% discount, what not available here can be bought from outside.

Brahmarasayanam contains a lot of sugar, which isn’t safe for long-term diabetes. It might help memory a little, but it won’t improve movement. It’s better to focus on exercises, good diet, and your current medications. If you want herbal support, we can look for safer, sugar-free options –Medicines: 1) Brahmi ghrit– 15 ml after breakfast & dinner with milk 2) Ashwagandhadi lehyam 1 tsf with warm milk at night 3) Vasambuadi Thailam – 10 drops in water in the morning —External Care: Daily Abhyanga with Ksheerabala Thailam Weekly Shirodhara Daily gentle exercises / physiotherapy —Diet & Lifestyle: Low-sugar, high-fiber meals Avoid sweets, juices, and processed foods Continue diabetes & dementia medications Monitor blood sugar regularly

Hello, First- About Brahmarasayanam (important) -Not ideal/ generally NOT recommended in your husbands case WHY? -because it Is mainly for = memory, brain function, aging support BUT -it contains high sugar (jaggery, honey, ghee based base) ->This can raise blood glucose levels, even if diabetes is well controlled In your husband -long standing diabetes (>10years) -vascular dementia (brain blood flow issue) -slowed movement + fatigue So giving a high sugar formulation daily is risky and may -destabilize sugar levels -increase inflammation -worsen vascular damage over time Will it help dementia? partially yes, but not the best choice Brahmarasayanam may -support memory mildly -nourish brain tissue BUT -it does not address the root cause in vascular dementia -poor circulation -nerve degeneration -metabolic damage from diabetes Instead of one rasayana, we treat 3 root problems together -Brain degeneration (dementia) -circulation (vascular issue) -metabolism (diabetes + fatigue) Internal medication 1) Ksheerbala 101 capsule= 1 cap twice daily after meals =nourishes nerves, improves movement, reduces stiffness 2) Brahmi ghritam= 1/4 tsp with warm milk in morning =improves memory, calms mind, supports cognition Better than brahmarasayanam because lower sugar load 3) Vasguduchyadi kashaya= 15ml + 45ml water twice daily before meals =controls blood sugar, reduces inflammation, protects blood vessels 4) Ashwaandha tablet= 1 tab twice daily after meals =improves strength, reduces fatigue, supports nervous system 5) Saraswatarishtam = 10ml with equal water after meals =enhances speech, cognition helps dementia symptoms External treatment 1) Oil massage= ksheerbala taila =improves circulation, reduces stiffness, helps movement slowing 2) Head massage= daily with ksheerbala taila =improves memory, sleep, nourishment 3) Foot massage at night with warm ghee =helps nerve relaxation, better sleep, brain calming Lifestyle + yoga gentle daily routine -slow walking 20 min -sun exposure morning Pranayam -Anulom Vilom= improves brain oxygen -Bhramari= calming, improves cognition Diet -warm, freshly cooked meals -whole grains millets, oats -green vegetables -cow ghee small amount Avoid -sugar, jaggery heavy products -packaged foods -excess curd especially at night -deep fried foods Simple home remedies 1) Turmeric milk at night= anti inflammatory, protect vessels 2) Soaked almonds 2-3 daily= brain nourishment Investigation to monitor -HbA1c -fasting and post meal sugar -lipid profile -vitamin B12 Treatment goal we aim to -slow dementia progression -improve circulation to brain -maintain stable sugar levels -enhance mobility and strength -improve quality of life Avoid starting Brahmarasayanam on your own It is not ideal for diabetics, especially long term use Instead -use low sugar, nerve supportive formulations -focus on oil therapies + circulation + metabolism balance Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you

Brahmarasayanam me sugar content high hota hai, isliye diabetes patient me ise directly dena safe nahi hota, especially long-term use me sugar levels disturb ho sakte hain. Aapke husband ko diabetes + vascular dementia hai, to treatment carefully choose karna zaroori hai. Brahmarasayanam ki jagah better option: Brahmi Vati 1 tablet din me 2 baar Ashwagandha churna ½ tsp raat ko doodh ke saath Yeh brain function, memory aur weakness me support deta hai bina sugar load ke. Saath me regular sugar monitoring continue rakhein. Agar fir bhi Brahmarasayanam dena ho, to bahut small dose aur doctor supervision me hi dein.

I recommend you not to take brahma rasayanam as he is diabetic. Brahma rasayanam enhances memory, focus, and intellect but it also can raise blood sugar levels. For vascular dementia brahmi, shankupushpi etc can help so you can go for other alternative medicine. Like kashaya or choorna form. There are some significant changes in some patients by taking brahmi drakshadi kashaya and shankupushpi choorna. If the patient has any sleep disorders or any other mood swings, then we can go for aswagandha choorna also. Ksheerabala tailam nasya and siropicu have also results in dementia condition. 1. Brahmi drakshadi kashaya 15ml + 45ml lukewarm water twice daily 1 hour before food. 2. Shankupuspi choorna 1/2 tsp with warm water at bed time. If sleep issue you can go for Aswagandha choorna same dose same time instead of shankupuspi. 3. Ksheerabala 101A 2 drops in each nostril at morning in empty stomach. Take care, Dr. Shaniba

Brahma rasayanam is a classical ayurvedic formulation primarily indicated for cognitive support, memory enhancement, and general rejuvenation (medhya and rasayana effect). it contains ingredients like amalaki, ghee, and multiple herbs, but it is also prepared with a significant amount of jaggery or sugar base, which is the main issue in your husband’s case. regarding safety in diabetes since your husband has well-controlled diabetes but for more than 10 years, regular intake of brahma rasayanam in standard doses can raise blood glucose levels due to its high sugar content. even if sugars are currently controlled, such formulations may disturb glycemic stability over time. therefore, it is not considered ideal in its classical form for diabetic patients unless modified. regarding vascular dementia and benefits brahma rasayanam may offer some supportive benefits such as mild cognitive enhancement improved mental clarity reduction in fatigue and weakness support for slowed movements indirectly by improving overall vitality however, it is not a primary treatment for vascular dementia, which is largely related to impaired blood supply to the brain. management in such cases focuses more on circulation, neuroprotection, and metabolic stability. clinical recommendation in your husband’s case avoid routine use of classical brahma rasayanam due to sugar load if considered, it should only be in very small dose and under supervision, with strict blood sugar monitoring better approach is to use sugar-free or tablet-based medhya rasayana alternatives safer ayurvedic options to consider these provide similar cognitive support without affecting blood sugar significantly: mandukaparni (centella asiatica) shankhapushpi guduchi brahmi in tablet or ghrita form best in ghrita form for slowed movement and fatigue focus should also include mild abhyanga (oil massage) to improve circulation physiotherapy or gentle movement exercises ensuring good vascular health (bp, lipids, sugar all controlled)

Brahmarasayanam can support memory and vitality, but because it contains a high amount of sugar/honey, it is not recommended for diabetic patients unless carefully supervised.
