According to Ayurveda, chronic tinnitus is often related to aggravated Vata Dosha affecting the auditory channels (Karna) and the nervous system (Majja Dhatu). High stress and poor sleep further aggravate Vata, making the ringing or buzzing sensation more noticeable. Treatment Principles Vata Shamana – Pacify aggravated Vata Dosha. Majja Dhatu Poshana – Nourish and strengthen the nervous system. Manas Shanti – Reduce stress, anxiety, and mental overactivity. Nidra Sudharana – Improve sleep quality and duration. Karna Poshana – Support ear health and auditory function. Rx 1. Ashwagandha Churna – 3–5 gm with warm milk at bedtime. 2. Brahmi Vati – 1 tablet twice daily after meals. 3. Saraswatarishta – 15–20 ml with equal water twice daily after meals. 4. Ksheerbala 101 Capsules – 1 capsule twice daily after food. 5. Anu Taila Nasya – 2 drops in each nostril Diet Recommendations Prefer Warm, freshly prepared meals. Cow’s ghee in moderation. Soaked almonds, walnuts, dates, raisins. Milk (if suitable), green vegetables, seasonal fruits. Moong dal, khichadi, light and nourishing foods. Avoid Excess tea, coffee, energy drinks. Packaged, processed, and junk foods. Excessively spicy, dry, and cold foods. Alcohol and smoking. Long gaps between meals. Lifestyle Recommendations Sleep on time Practice Bhramari Pranayama for 10–15 minutes daily. Perform Nadi Shodhana Pranayama regularly. Daily meditation for stress reduction. Gentle head massage with Brahmi Taila or Ksheerbala Taila before bedtime. Avoid prolonged headphone/earphone use and loud noise exposure.

••In Ayurveda, tinnitus is recognized as Karnanada (sound in the ear) or Karnakshweda (wheezing/ringing sound). It is fundamentally classified as a Vata Vyadhi—a disorder born from a severe vitiation of Vata Dosha in the channels of the ear (Prana Vayu and Vyan Vayu). ••To break this loop, we must pacify Vata, nourish the nervous system (Majja Dhatu), and calm the mind (Sadhaka Pitta and Prana Vayu). 1. Classical Chikitsa (Therapies) To directly ground the erratic Vata movement in the head and neck region, localized physical therapies are highly effective. ••Karna Purana (Ear Drop Therapy): Instilling warm, medicated oil like Bilva Taila or Apamarga Kshara Taila (1 to 2 drops daily or as a structured clinical procedure) lubricates the auditory canal, calms local Vata, and directly counters the dryness causing the sound. ••Shirodhara & Shiroabhyanga: Massaging the scalp with Kshirabala Taila or Brahmi Taila stabilizes the nervous system, cools mental friction, and addresses the root of sleep onset delays. ••Pratimarsha Nasya: Daily instillation of 2 drops of Anu Taila or warm Goghrita (cow’s ghee) into each nostril nourishes the Uttamanga (head/brain region), clearing the pathways connected to the cranial nerves. 2. Abhyantara Aushadhi (Internal Formulations) A multi-targeted internal approach is required to provide neuroprotection, improve cerebral blood flow, and quieten the hyperactive auditory cortex. Medhya Rasayanas (Neuroprotective & Stress Relievers) ••Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) & Shankhapushpi (Convolvulus pluricaulis): Powerful brain tonics that minimize cognitive fatigue, lower cortisol levels, and slow down degenerative changes in cerebral pathways. ••Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera): An exceptional Vata-shamaka adaptogen that strengthens the Majja Dhatu, helping the brain tolerate the phantom auditory signals without triggering a flight-or-fight stress response. Classical Herbo-Mineral Complex Formulations ••Saraswatarishta: Administered at 15 to 20 mL with an equal quantity of water post-meals. It is the gold standard for neurological weakness, speech, hearing irregularities, and sleep disturbances. ••Yogaraj Guggulu or Trayodashanga Guggulu: Deeply penetrative anti-Vata formulations that clear obstructions (Awarodha) in the subtle microchannels (Shrotas) supplying the inner ear. ••Ashwagandharishta: Frequently paired with Saraswatarishta when the patient suffers from deep-seated exhaustion, severe sleep deprivation, and high anxiety. 3.
