does amla cause acidity - #36951

Noah

I am trying to figure out some health stuff and am a bit confused about amla. A few weeks ago, I started incorporating amla into my routine since I heard it's great for immune health and digestion. But lately, I've been feeling this ache in my stomach, kind of like a burning sensation, and I can't help but think that maybe amla is causing acidity issues. There’s this weird feeling after I take it, like my stomach's not very happy, you know? I’ve been drinking amla juice every morning on an empty stomach, almost like it’s become a ritual, but now I can't shake off the thought that does amla cause acidity or maybe I just overdid it? Before this, my digestion was fine, and now it feels all off. I'm not even sure if it's the amla or something else. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a particular way to take amla so it doesn't mess with my stomach? Should I stop completely or do I just need to use it differently? I really want the benefits without the discomfort. A bit lost here, any advice would be super helpful!

Amla is indeed renowned in Ayurveda for its ability to support immune function and digestion due to its rich vitamin C content and its cooling properties. However, taking amla juice on an empty stomach might lead to discomfort for some individuals, particularly if one’s digestive fire, or agni, is on the weaker side. This discomfort you’re feeling could be linked to how your body is reacting to the natural amla acids when taken without any other food present.

One way to mitigate this burning sensation is to adjust how you are consuming amla. Instead of taking amla juice on an empty stomach, try having it along with or after food. This gives your stomach other substances to work on, potentially reducing the intensity of any acidity. Mixing amla with a spoonful of honey or a teaspoon of ghee could also buffer its acidity.

You might also consider incorporating amla in different forms, like churna (powder), which can be taken with warm water after meals, or as part of a larger dish like a chutney. Both methods can soften its sharpness on your stomach while still providing the health benefits you seek.

Additionally, gently warming the amla juice before drinking it can sometimes lessen the irritating acid component, making it more digestive-friendly. If discomfort persists, it’s wise to check in on other dietary factors or stress levels, as these can also impact digestive health.

Taking a short break from amla may also help to identify if it is indeed the culprit, as digestive upsets can often have multiple causes. If the issue continues without amla, consider consulting an Ayurvedic practitioner to explore if there might be a deeper imbalance needing attention Aim to restore balance without losing the benefits of such a potent fruit - it’s about finding the right fit for your unique system!
