how to get rid of acidity naturally - #37593
I am really struggling with acidity issues, and it's becoming a nightmare. For the past few months, I keep getting this burning sensation in my chest, and it feels like I'm constantly fighting fire inside. I tried modifying my diet, cutting back on spicy stuff and citrus fruits, but still, the acidity just won't budge. Last week, I even went to my doctor, and they said I might just have to deal with it, but I don’t wanna rely on medications. I hear people saying there's ways on how to get rid of acidity naturally but it’s tough to figure out what actually works. Tried chamomile tea but didn’t do much for me...maybe more like a placebo, haha. Also, I’ve read about ginger and aloe vera helping, but not sure how to use them effectively. At night, it gets worse, like right when I lay down, and I’m scared of developing serious issues if this goes on. How to get rid of acidity naturally? Are there specific remedies I should stick to? Do you think lifestyle changes can actually make a difference? Plz help, I just wanna feel normal again!!

It sounds like you’re dealing with classic symptoms of acid reflux or hyperacidity. In Ayurveda, your condition may be described as an imbalance in the Pitta dosha, which governs metabolism and transformation in the body. Addressing this involves balancing your digestive fire (Agni) and cooling down the excess heat in your system.
Let’s start with dietary changes. You’ve already cut back on spicy and citrus foods, which is good. Consider avoiding foods like tomatoes, vinegar, fried and oily dishes, and processed foods as they can aggravate Pitta. Instead, focus on incorporating cooling and mildly sweet foods like cucumber, watermelon, and green leafy vegetables. Drink coconut water, which is soothing and provides hydratation. Introducing pomegranates or dates can also be beneficial due to their sweet and cooling nature.
For ginger and aloe vera, here’s how to use them: Ginger can be helpful, but in moderation. A small piece of fresh ginger (1-2 grams) with a pinch of rock salt before meals can stimulate digestion without overheating. Aloe vera can be consumed as a juice, about 1/4 cup before meals, to soothe the stomach lining. Be sure to use pure aloe vera juice, without added sugars or preservatives.
Lifestyle changes are indeed impactful. Avoid lying down immediately after eating; wait at least 2-3 hours. When sleeping, try elevating the head of your bed slightly or using a wedge pillow to prevent acid from moving upward. Practice stress-management techniques like deep breathing, meditation, or yoga to help reduce overall Pitta.
Herbal remedies such as amla (Indian gooseberry) can be useful. You can find it in powder form or as a supplement. Amla balances excess Pitta and strengthens digestion. Consuming buttermilk with a pinch of cumin and coriander can improve digestion and severe symptoms too.
Drinking warm herbal teas like fennel or coriander tea can help as they are natural antacids. And keep in mind, smoking or drinking alcohol can exacerbate acidity, so it’s wise to avoid them.
Try to be mindful of your eating schedule, eating at the same time every day to regulate your ‘agni’. And remember, if symptoms persist or worsen, it’s important to seek professional medical advice to rule out more serious underlying conditions.
