In Ayurveda, anxiety, palpitations, and depression are often related to an imbalance in the Vata dosha, which governs the nervous system and mental functions. To address these symptoms, focus on calming Vata through grounding practices and nourishing lifestyle changes. Incorporate a warm, balanced diet rich in grounding foods like cooked grains, root vegetables, and healthy fats (ghee, sesame oil). Herbal teas with Ashwagandha, Brahmi, and Chamomile can soothe the nervous system. Practice daily mindfulness techniques such as meditation, pranayama (breathing exercises), or yoga to help calm the mind and reduce stress. A regular sleep routine is crucial for restoring balance, as well as gentle, restorative exercise like walking or yoga. Avoid stimulants like caffeine and heavy, spicy foods that can exacerbate anxiety. Lastly, consider a consultation with an Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized herbs and treatments, such as Abhyanga (oil massage) to calm the body and mind.

Feeling anxious and having palpitations must be really unsettling. First thing, remember that those palpitations might feel overwhelming, but it can find reasons in both your mind and body. In Ayurveda, this could be due to an imbalance of Vata dosha, which governs movement and nervous system functions, and its excessive movement can cause irregular heartbeats and anxiety.

To bring some balance back, calming the Vata could help. Try incorporating grounding routines into your daily life, which might be missing. Regularity is important — wake up, eat and go to bed at consistent times to soothe the anxious energies.

Diet-wise, focus on warm, cooked meals. Foods that are hearty and easy to digest like soups or stews. Avoid stimulants like caffeine which can aggravate anxiety symptoms. Warm milk with some nutmeg or a pinch of saffron at bedtime might help calm those nerves too.

Breath work is super useful here. Practice slow, deep breathing exercises in the morning and whenever you feel those anxious waves, Bhramari or Anulom Vilom pranayama can be particularly helpful in calming the mind. These encourage relaxation and steadiness.

Abhyanga, which is self-massage with warm sesame oil, can be grounding too. Maybe do it before a warm shower and allow the heat and oil to calm you down.

Also remember, sometimes anxiety brings those thoughts that spiral, and it’s ok to seek talk therapy if they feel overwhelming. Sometimes it is necessary to talk through it with someone.

If symptoms worsen or persist, do see a healthcare professional to rule out any underlying issues. Also, Ayurveda recommends herbs like ashwagandha or brahmi that could be supportive for anxiety, but it’s always good to consult someone to find the right combo and dosages for you.

Take care, and let yourself move gently through this. Your state can change—just give it a little time and kindness.
