A few weeks ago, I was reading about the brain and its different parts, and I came across the term medulla function. I understand that the medulla is part of the brainstem and controls essential functions like breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure, but I started wondering how Ayurveda views the brainstem and its role in overall health. Since Ayurveda has a deep understanding of the mind-body connection, does it have a perspective on medulla function and how to keep it healthy naturally? From what I read, the medulla function is critical for survival since it regulates involuntary actions like swallowing and reflexes. But can issues with the medulla lead to specific health problems? For example, I often feel dizzy when I stand up too quickly—could this be related to medulla dysfunction, or is it more likely a blood pressure issue? Does Ayurveda offer natural ways to strengthen the nervous system and support medulla function? Another thing that caught my attention is that damage to the medulla can affect breathing patterns. I sometimes struggle with shortness of breath, especially when I feel anxious. Could this be linked to the medulla’s control over respiration? Does Ayurveda recommend breathing exercises, herbs, or lifestyle changes to support brainstem function and improve breathing? I also read that the medulla function is closely connected to the vagus nerve, which helps regulate digestion, stress, and heart rate. Since Ayurveda places a lot of importance on digestion (Agni) and nervous system balance, does it have any treatments that help optimize vagus nerve activity, thereby supporting medulla function? Another concern I have is stress. I have noticed that when I am under extreme stress, I sometimes feel lightheaded and my heart rate feels irregular. Could stress overload affect the medulla function, and if so, does Ayurveda offer techniques such as Abhyanga (oil massage), Shirodhara (head oil treatment), or herbal remedies that help strengthen brainstem function? I am interested in improving my nervous system health holistically and preventing issues that could impact medulla function. What are the best Ayurvedic herbs, yoga practices, and dietary changes that can help maintain a strong and healthy brainstem?
