Doctors' responses

Spinal cord injuries, especially those that are incomplete, can sometimes benefit from an integrated approach that includes Ayurvedic supportive therapies. While no herbal treatment can fully regenerate damaged spinal tissue, several Ayurvedic formulations and therapies aim to improve nerve function, reduce spasticity, and enhance overall well-being. But before starting the treatment it’s better to see the patient and start medicines

In the case of an incomplete spinal cord injury, Ayurveda can offer some supportive measures that may potentially enhance the quality of life, though it is crucial to keep realistic expectations. Ayurvedic therapies won’t cure the injury but may help manage symptoms and improve overall well-being.

First, understanding your son’s Prakriti (constitution) is important, as it will guide personalized treatment. Balancing Vata dosha, known for its association with nerve function, will be crucial. Consider including Ashwagandha and Bala in his routine—these herbs are known to support nerve health and enhance strength. Ashwagandha can be taken as a powder (around 1 teaspoon), mixed with warm milk, daily preferably at night.

A regular gentle Abhyanga (oil massage) with warm Mahanarayan oil or Dhanwantharam tailam can help in stimulating the nervous system and improving circulation. Massaging once or twice a week could aid in muscle relaxation and alleviating pain or discomfort.

Dietary habits also play a significant role. Encourage a warm, nourishing diet rich in moong dal, rice, ghee, and cooked vegetables that are easy on digestion. Spices like ginger, turmeric, and black pepper may help enhance digestion and reduce inflammation. Ensuring regular bowel motions is vital, as constipation can affect spinal injury patients quite severely, so fiber-rich whole grains and vegetables must be considered.

Engage in gentle Yoga and Pranayama—Deep breathing exercises can facilitate better circulation and oxygenation to the tissues. Hart so pushing against resistance will be beneficial, ensuring not to overextend or strain any existing injuries.

Ayurvedic guidance should be adjunct and alongside conventional medical treatments, which will be essential for an ongoing condition like this. As always, before starting any new treatment or diet, consult with a healthcare provider familiar with your son’s condition.
