47 yrs now. Not having periods since 2 months - #21112

Iam 47 yrs now. Not having periods since 2 months. Last period date feb 18 2025.kindly suggest any medical tests to be taken to identify menapause. Shall I wait further or shall I go for some blood tests

Considering you’re 47 years old and experiencing changes in your menstrual cycle, you might be in the transitional phase known as perimenopause, which could lead up to menopause. This is rather common, and missing periods may be a sign but it’s crucial to rule out other possible causes.

In terms of medical tests, you could consider a blood test to check your hormone levels. Specifically, measuring Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Estradiol levels could provide clues about menopausal status. Higher levels of FSH and lower levels of estrogen can indicate menopause. However, hormone levels can fluctuate, so it’s usually a combination of symptoms and tests results that confirm menopause.

You might also want to test thyroid function because thyroid imbalances can also affect menstrual cycles. A Complete Blood Count (CBC) and checks for iron levels can rule out anemia, which sometimes influences cycles too.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, it’s important to adress this transition carefully. Emphasize a sattvic diet with lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and good fats like ghee and nuts to balance Vata dosha, which often goes out of balance as we age. Reducing intake of caffeine, alcohol, and refined sugars may also help.

Herbs like Ashoka and Shatavari can support reproductive health by balancing hormones and nourishing tissues. These herbs can be taken as powders or tablets as per the advice of an Ayurvedic physician who knows your specific prakriti or constitution. Additionally, practicing regular yoga and pranayama can be highly beneficial in this time of change.
