Irregular periods can indeed be frustrating, especially when paired with mood swings. Lean PCOS, like other forms of polycystic ovary syndrome, can cause these symptoms due to hormonal imbalances, but it’s not necessarily harmful if properly managed. It’s crucial first to confirm if PCOS is indeed the cause of your irregular cycles, or if there might be another underlying issue by consulting a healthcare professional.

In Ayurveda, PCOS is often associated with an imbalance of Kapha and Vata doshas, leading to disrupted menstrual cycles. To address this, we focus on diet, lifestyle changes, and specific herbal remedies.

1. Diet: Focus on consuming fresh, whole foods. Incorporate more warming spices to balance Vata and Kapha, like turmeric, cinnamon, and cumin. Avoid cold, processed foods, and heavy dairy products which can aggravate Kapha. Eating small, regular meals to maintain blood sugar levels can also be beneficial.

2. Lifestyle: Regular exercise is essential. Aim for balance, avoiding overly strenuous activity which can aggravate Vata, while ensuring you’re not too sedentary, as this contributes to Kapha imbalance. Yoga and pranayama can also help promote hormonal balance and relieve stress.

3. Herbs: Ayurvedic herbs such as Shatavari, Ashwagandha, and Triphala can assist in balancing hormones and improving reproductive health. Shatavari nourishes and balances the reproductive system, while Ashwagandha supports stress management, and Triphala aids digestion and detoxification.

4. Routine: Establish a regular daily routine to stabilize Vata. This includes going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, and finding time for reflection or meditation to maintain mental clarity and balance.
