Doctors' responses

When periods are delayed for more than two months with high testosterone insulin resistance and enlarged ovaries, it clearly indicates hormonal imbalance caused by PCOS taking hormone tablets can bring temporary bleeding, but they do not correct the root cause once you stop them, irregularity and air fall usually return itis better to focus on regulating insulin. Unbalancing natural hormone rhythm. You can take Sukumaram kashayam twice daily after food Asokaristha twice daily after food - each 10 ml with equal quantities of water Rajapravarthini vati 1 tablet twice daily after food Strirasayana vati 1-0-1 Madhunashini vati 1-0-1 Avoid sugar bakery foods fried items and dairy products Include more vegetables methi seeds If if there is irregular period even after the medicine once repeat us scan

Hello Vaishnavi Thank you for sharing your detailed concerns. I completely understand that managing PCOS, delayed periods, excessive hair fall, and hormonal imbalance can be both distressing and frustrating but dont worry we are here to help you out😊

✅ AYURVEDIC TREATMENT PROTOCOL

✅INTERNAL MEDICATION

1 Kanchanar Guggulu – 2 tablets twice daily after food (Helps shrink ovarian cysts, reduces Kapha–Meda accumulation, balances thyroid and hormonal levels.)

2 Shatavari kalpa – 1 tsp with warm milk twice daily ( Nourishes female reproductive tissues, supports ovulation, and regularizes periods.)

3 Ashokarishta – 20 ml with equal warm water twice daily after food ( Regulates menstrual cycle, tones uterus, relieves lower abdominal pain and hormonal imbalance.)

4 Chandraprabha Vati – 2 tablets twice daily after meals ( Acts on the endocrine and urinary systems; balances insulin and improves metabolism.)

✅SHODHANA CHIKITSA (Detoxification Phase)

If feasible, under the guidance of an Ayurvedic physician, the following Panchakarma therapies are highly beneficial:

Udvartana (herbal powder massage) – helps reduce insulin resistance, removes Kapha and Meda.

Virechana (therapeutic purgation) – detoxifies Pitta and hormonal channels.

Basti (medicated enema) – balances Vata, promotes ovulation, and regulates menstruation.

✅ HOME REMEDIES

👉 Fenugreek (Methi) seeds – Soak 1 tsp overnight and consume in the morning. ( Helps improve insulin sensitivity and ovarian function.)

👉 Flax seeds (Alsi) – 1 tsp powder daily. ( Rich in lignans that regulate estrogen and testosterone levels.)

👉 Aloe vera juice – 1 tbsp fresh juice before breakfast. (Helps balance female hormones and support ovulation.)

👉 Cumin–Coriander–Fennel (CCF) tea – Sip warm through the day. ( Enhances digestion and clears toxins.)

✅ DIET MODIFICATION

✅ Include Warm, freshly cooked, light meals Green leafy vegetables, bottle gourd, ridge gourd, pumpkin Millets like jowar, bajra, and ragi instead of refined flour Moong dal soup, vegetable soups, and buttermilk Turmeric, cinnamon, and black pepper for metabolism Warm water throughout the day

❌Avoid

Fried, oily, and processed food Excess dairy and cheese White sugar, refined flour, and bakery items Cold drinks and ice cream Daytime sleep and late-night meals

✅ LIFESTYLE TIPS

Yoga Asanas Practice daily for at least 30 minutes: Surya Namaskar, Baddha Konasana, Setu Bandhasana, Bhujangasana Pranayama- Anulom Vilom, Bhramari,Kapalabhati

✅ADDITIONAL TIPS

Maintain fixed meal and sleep timings. Sleep before 10:30 PM and wake up early. Engage in regular physical activity or brisk walking. Avoid mental stress — practice meditation or chanting for emotional balance.

✅ Regarding Hormone Tablets

You may use hormone tablets temporarily if prescribed by your gynecologist to induce menses — however, Ayurveda aims to correct the root imbalance, not just trigger bleeding.

Hormone tablets may provide short-term relief but can suppress natural ovarian activity if used for long. Ayurvedic management restores your body’s own hormonal rhythm, ensuring that periods become regular naturally and fertility potential improves.

With consistent Ayurvedic care and patience, your cycle will gradually regularize, and hormonal harmony will return.

Wishing you a good health😊

Warm regards, Dr Snehal Vidhate

HELLO VAISHNAVI, Hormone tablets may induce bleeding and give temporary relief but they do not correct the underlying cause of the condition, hence your problem occurs again and again once you stop taking hormonal pills.

On the other hand, the following treatment plan works on the root level and actually benefits the body. Considering your history, I recommend the following treatment plan for you- Treatment - 1. Raj pravartini vati 2-0-2 after meal 2. Ashokaristha 15ml with 15 ml water twice a day after meal 3. Haridra capsules 1-0-1 after meal 4. Nisha amalaki tablet 1-0-1 before meals

Diet- .Increase intake of turmeric, garlic, amla. .Avoid maida, oily food, junk food .Avoid icecream, colddrink, fast food, oily food especially during periods. .Eat fruits, dry fruits, milk instead of snacking on packaged items

Yoga- Anulom vilom,dhanurasan,malasan

Lifestyle modification - Stress management -Through meditation, walking, journaling, foot massage etc Atleast 30 minutes walking after dinner. Weight management through walking, dancing, cycling. Take atleast 7 hours of sound sleep. Keeping record of date and duration of menses for further evaluation. Follow these and you will definitely get results. Don’t hesitate to reach out for any further query. FOLLOW UP AFTER 1 MONTH. Take care Regards, Dr.Anupriya

HELLO,

In PCOD, the ovaries make small fluid-filled sacs (cysts). These cysts disturb the release of eggs and cause hormonal imbalance. This imbalance leads to -irregular periods - sometimes delayed, sometimes heavy -hairfall/ hair thinning -weight issues- some gain too much, some don’t gain at all -pimples, oily skin -mood swings, stress, poor sleep -increase testosterone , insulin fasting increase

In Ayurveda, this is mainly due to kapha imbalance (blockages, cysts, sluggish metabolism), Vata disturbance (irregular cycles, pain, stress), and Pitta disturbance (heavy bleeding, hair thinning, skin issues). Weak digestion (Agni) and accumulation of toxins (ama) make it worse.

TREATMENT GOALS -Clear the root cause= improve digestion and remove toxins -Balance hormones naturally= by correcting kapha-vata-pitta -Regulate menstrual cycles= make periods more regular and reduce excess flow -Nourish reproductive system -support hair and skin health -reduce stress and improve sleep -improve strength and healthy weight

INTERNAL MEDICATIONS

1) KANCHANAR GUGGULU= 2 tabs twice daily after meals for 3 months =reduces cysts, balances kapha, clears blockages

2) ASHOKARISHTA= 20 ml with equal water after meals twice daily for 3 months =regulates heavy bleeding, strengthens uterus

3) DASHMOOLARISHTA= 20 ml with equal water after meals twice daily for 3 months =balances vata, reduces pain and weakness

4) SHATAVARI CAPSULES= 1 cap twice daily with warm milk for 3 months =balances hormones, nourishes uterus, supports fertility and weight gain

5) TRIPHALA CHURNA= 1 tsp with warm water at bedtime =improves digestion, clears toxins, mild detox

6) BHRINGARAJ + AMALAKI= 1 tsp with warm water twice daily for 3 months =prevents hairfall, improves blood and skin health

6) NISHAAMALAKI CHURNA= 1 tsp with warm water before meals = control insulin level

LIFESTYLE CHANGES -Sleep= try to fix sleep even in night shift- use blackout curtains, avoid mobile before bed, drink warm milk or chamomile tea -Stress= daily meditation/journaling/chanting-> reduces cortisol which disturbs hormones -Physical activity= walking + yoga more helpful than intense gym workouts in PCOD

YOGA ASANAS -baddha konasana = improves blood flow to ovaries -Bhujangasana= stimulates reproductive organs -Setu bandhasana= balances thyroid and hormones -Surya Namaskar= slow 6-12 rounds daily

PRANAYAM -Anulom vilom= balances vata and pitta -Bhramari= calms stress, improves sleep -Kapalbhati= improves metabolism

DIET -Grains= barley, red rice, oats, whole wheat -Vegetables= bitter gourd, drum stick, bottle gourd, spinach, methi, broccoli -Fruits= papaya (helps periods), pomegranate , apple, guava -Nuts and seeds= soaked almonds, walnuts, pumpkin, seeds , flaxseeds -Proteins= moong dal, horse gram, lentils -Good fats= cow’s ghee, sesame oil in moderation

AVOID -excess sweets, bakery foods, fried and junk foods -cold drinks, ice creams -curd at night -packaged and processed food -excess tea/coffee

HOME REMEDIES 1) Fenugreek seeds= soak 1 tsp overnight, chew in morning-> improves insulin sensitivity and periods 2) Cinnamon tea= helps regulate cycles. 3) Aloe vera juice= 15ml empty stomach-> balances hormones, improves digestion 4) Flaxseed powder= 1 tsp daily in warm water-> balances oestrogen levels 5) Sesame seeds + jaggery= during winter-> supports periods and healthy weight

PCOD is not a permenent disease- with proper diet, lifestyle, Ayurvedic medicines, yoga and stress control, cycles can become regular, hairfall will reduce, and healthy weight can be gained.

The key is patience + consistency for at least 3-6 months -Avoid quick fixes (like crash diets or random hormonal pills without need) -With Ayurveda, the aim is not just to treat symtpoms but to restore balance from the root.

STRICTLY AVOID HORMONAL TABLETS- NOT ADVISABLE DO FOLLOW

HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL

THANK YOU

DR. MAITRI ACHARYA

While hormone tablets might be prescribed in allopathic medicine for regulating periods, Ayurveda offers alternative approaches that target the root causes of PCOS. Hormonal balance, for instance, can be addressed through diet, lifestyle, and herbal remedies.

First, let’s focus on diet. It’s important to manage your weight and maintain a balanced diet to stabilize insulin levels. Consume meals that are rich in fiber, and whole grains like brown rice or quinoa can also be beneficial. Incorporate bitter foods like karela (bitter gourd) and fenugreek as they have a role in reducing insulin resistance and balancing hormones. Avoid refined carbohydrates, sugars, and processed foods; these may exacerbate the imbalance.

Consider herbal remedies such as Ashwagandha, which is known to reduce cortisol levels and balance hormones. You might also look into Shatavari, which supports reproductive health and can aid in regularizing menstrual cycles. These should be taken under the supervision of an Ayurvedic practitioner, who can tailor dosages and formulations to your specific condition.

Practicing yoga and regular physical activity will greatly support your condition, too. Begin with light exercises and gradually increase intensity as your body adjusts, focusing on routines that reduce stress and enhance reproductive system. Stress adversely affects hormones; activities like pranayama or meditation can be effective in bringing calmness to your mind-body.

Consulting an Ayurvedic physician is crucial before taking any herbal treatments, particularly when you’re managing a condition like PCOS alongside elevated insulin and testosterone levels. Their expertise can provide a deeply personalized healing plan.

It’s also important to remain int family physician or a gynecologist for monitoring your condition and adjusting any treatments as necessary. Seeking immediate medical advice if there’s a significant health concern is imperative to ensure comprehensive care.
