Good day Im 41 and pregnant (5weeks) IS it safe to take shatavari during pregnancy. Please advise urgently and on what to take for development of the baby.

Yes, Shatavari, known as Asparagus racemosus in botanical terms, has been used traditionally in Ayurveda as a supportive herb during pregnancy. It’s renowned for nurturing the female reproductive system, enhancing fertility, and supporting pregnancy health. However, taking shatavari during this critical phase, especially at your age and stage of 5-weeks, should be approached with careful consideration. It’s crucial to consult with an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner or healthcare provider to ensure it’s tailored to your individual health needs and circumstances.

Shatavari is believed to bepacify Vata and Pitta doshas and nourish the dhatus, particularly the rasa (plasma and lymph) and artava (reproductive tissues), helping to balance the body’s hormonal and reproductive systems. In Ayurveda, a well-balanced rasa dhatu is essential for a healthy pregnancy and optimal fetal development. Nonetheless, individual constitution, existing conditions, and overall body prakriti must be evaluated.

To support fetal development, ensure a diet rich in essential nutrients such as folic acid, iron, and calcium. Folic acid is crucial in the first trimester for preventing neural tube defects. Also consider saffron sipped in warm milk as it can aid digestion and improve mood, but again, in moderation and with a practitioners oversight.

Ayurveda emphasizes maintaining a balanced Agni (digestive fire). Eat easily digestible foods like warm soups, cooked vegetables, and stewed fruits. Avoid heavy, greasy, and very spicy foods which can imbalance digestion. Rest well, and avoid high stress or strenuous activities.
