Your symptoms (numbness, tingling, burning hands/feet especially at night, worse in cold) + back/neck pain suggest peripheral neuropathy (nerve irritation) + possible cervical/lumbar radiculopathy (nerve compression from spine). Cold aggravates Vata – common in winter.

See a Neurologist and get nerve conduction study (EMG/NCV) + MRI neck/lumbar if not recent – rule out diabetes, B12 deficiency, thyroid or spine compression.

Blood tests: B12, vitamin D, HbA1c, thyroid.

Ayurvedic Medicines 1 Ekangveer Ras – 1 tablet morning + night with warm water (restores nerve sensation) 2 Ashwagandha Lehyam – 10 gm morning + night with warm milk (calms nerves, reduces stress) 3 Maharasnadi Kwath – 20 ml + 60 ml warm water morning empty stomach (back/neck pain & stiffness) 4 Dashmoolarishta – 20 ml + 40 ml warm water after lunch & dinner (Vata balance) 5 Kaishore Guggulu – 2 tablets morning + night after food (reduces inflammation)

Oil (Daily – Must for Cold Weather) Warm Mahamasha Taila OR Ksheerabala Taila, full-body + hands/feet massage nightly followed by hot water bag 10 min + wear socks/gloves

Diet Give daily: moong khichdi + ghee, pomegranate, warm soups, ginger tea Avoid completely: cold food/drinks, raw salads, curd

Lifestyle Warm clothes, socks, gloves at night Gentle neck & back stretches (cat-cow pose) Sleep with pillow under knees

HELLO,

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN YOUR BODY? You are experiencing numbness, tingling, burning in hands and feet, along with neck and lower back pain, especially worsening during sleep, cold weather, and prolonged sitting

According to Ayurveda, this is mainly due to Vata dosha imbalance

WHY VATA IS THE MAIN CAUSE IN YOUR CASE

1) AGE FACTOR After the age of 50, vata naturally increases in the body.

Vata controls -nerves -sensation -movement -circulation So nerve related symptoms like tingling, numbness, dryness, pain become more common

2) COLD CLIMATE (new jersey) Cold, dry weather has the same qualities as vata. This increase vata further and causes -reduced circulation -nerve irritation -stiffness and pain

3) LONG SITTING HOURS Prolonged sitting causes -poor blood flow -compression of nerves in neck and lower back -weak nourishment to hands and feet Ayurveda calls this srotorodha (blockage of channels)

4) NECK AND LOWER BACK PAIN The spine is the main pathway of nerves when vata settles in -Neck -> tingling in hands -Lower back-> tingling in feet This condition is called Asthi-majja gata vata (vata affecting bones and nerve tissues)

5) WHY SYMPTOMS WORSEN AT NIGHT Night time is vata dominant time , so -tingling -burning -numbness increase during sleep

TREATMENT GOALS -calm aggravated vata -improve nerve nourishment -increase circulation to hands and feet -reduce stiffness, Pain and burning -prevent progression of nerve damage -improve sleep quality

INTERNAL MEDICATIONS

1) ASHWAGANDHA CHURNA= 1 tsp at night with warm milk for minimum 3 months = nourishes nerves, reduces weakness, improves sleep

2) YOGARAJ GUGGULU= 2 tabs twice daily after meals for 3 months =removes nerve inflammation , reduces stiffness and pain, improves joint mobility

3 ) DASHMOOLA KASHAYA= 20 ml + equal water daily preferably evening for 2 months =best medicine for vata disorders, reduces nerve pain, improves circulation

4) KSHEERBALA CAPSULES= 1 cap twice daily after meals =strengthens nerves, reduces numbness and tingling

IF BURNING SENSATION IS MORE -AMALAKI RASAYANA= 1 tsp in morning =balance mild pitta along with vata

EXTERNAL TREATMENT

DAILY OIL MASSAGE= KSHEERBALA TAILA -hands, feet, neck, lower back -oil is opposite of dry vata -improves circulation -calms irritated nerves Best done before bath or before sleep

SWEDANA (HEAT THERAPY) -warm towel or steam on neck and back =heat opens blocked channels and reduces stiffness

DIET -warm cooked food -rice, wheat, oats -moong dal -cooked vegetables - pumpkin, bottle gourd, carrot -ghee=1-2 tsp daily -warm milk with turmeric or nutmeg

AVOID -cold drinks -ice creams -raw salads -excess tea/coffee -dry snacks, chips -frozen and packaged food

LIFESTYLE CHANGES -keep hands and feet warm, especially at night -avoid cold wid exposure -do not sit continuously for more than 40-45 minutes -gentle walking daily -sleep before 10 pm -avoid stress and overthinking increase vata

YOGA ASANAS -tadasana -bhujangasana -setu bandhasana -pawanmuktasana

PRANAYAM -Nadi sodhana= balances nervous system -Bhramari= calms nerve irritation -Deep slow breathing

HOME REMEDIES -warm oil massage on soles before sleep -turmeric milk at night -sesame oil application on feet -warm water bath

PROGNOSIS -Since problem in chronic (>6 months):- improvement will be gradual -Tingling reduces in 4-6 weeks -Pain and stiffness improve In 6-8 weeks -consistency is key

This condition is manageable and reversible to a good extent if -vata is controlled -regular oiling and warmth is maintained -diet and lifestyle are corrected -treatment is continued patiently

Ayurveda focuses not only on symptoms relief but on root cause correction, which takes time but gives long lasting benefit

DO FOLLOW

HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL

THANK YOU

Hello I get how irritating and worrying it is to have numb, tingly hands and feet. The good news is, we can definitely get this under control.

YOUR CONCERN –Symptoms: Numbness, tingling, burning in your hands and feet, especially when you’re trying to sleep. –How long Over six months now. –Other stuff: You also have pain in your lower back and neck.

–What makes it worse:Sitting for a long time. –Your life: You live in a cold place (New Jersey) and haven’t really changed your diet or how you live.

AYURVEDIC UNDERSTANDING

This probably comes from a Vata imbalance, which messes with your nerves and blood flow. Things that might be making it worse are:

* Not enough blood flow from sitting for too long or being out in the cold. * Your spine showing some age, which can press on nerves in your back and neck. * Your nerves not getting enough good stuff because of weak bodily tissues.

TREATMENT PLAN

* Get Vata back in balance and boost your circulation. * Make your nerves and muscles stronger. * Stop that burning, tingling, and numbness. * Ease up on your back and neck pain.

AYURVEDIC PLAN OF TREATMENT

INTERNAL MEDICATION

1 Ashwagandha Capsules: One capsule in the morning and one in the evening after you eat. This helps your nerves and muscles get stronger.

2.Shatavari churna + Bala churna Half a teaspoon with warm milk at night. This feeds your nervous system.

3.Dashmoolaristha 30ml-0-30ml twice a day. This calms Vata and helps with back and nerve pain.

EXTERNAL. CARE

👉Oil Massage (Abhyanga) Use warm Ksheerabala Taila. Rub it on your hands, feet, lower back, and neck for 10-15 minutes every day. This helps blood flow and makes stiff areas feel better.

👉Steam Therapy (Swedana): If you can, do this for 10-15 minutes daily, especially when it’s cold.

DIET PLAN

✅INCLUDE Warm, cooked meals like soups, stews, and khichdi. Also, milk, ghee, almonds, walnuts, seasonal veggies, lentils, and whole grains.

❌AVOID Cold or raw foods, icy drinks, too much coffee, and fried foods.

LIFESTYLE MODIFICATION

* Do some light stretching for your neck, back, and limbs every day.
* Take short walking breaks if you sit a lot.
* Keep yourself warm; don't let yourself get too cold.
* Try some relaxing things and gentle yoga to help calm your Vata and stress.

This problem can definitely get better with regular treatment and a few changes to your daily life. You might start feeling better in 4-8 weeks, but it could take 3-6 months to fully recover, just depending on how bad it is.

Warm Regards Dr. Snehal Vidhate
