Can anyone share their experiences with ayurvedic treatment for UTI and what worked for them? - #22023

Riley

I am having a bit of a rough time lately with this UTI that just won’t go away! It started a few weeks ago when I thought it was just a normal bladder infection, you know? But I’ve been taking antibiotics, and honestly, I just don’t want to rely on them all the time. I heard about ayurvedic treatment for UTI and was wondering if anyone here has tried it. I read that there are natural remedies like herbal teas and certain foods that can help, but I’m not too sure what to believe! I've been feeling this burning sensation and urgency frequently and just the other day I felt so bloated. I guess I've been looking for something more holistic, like ayurvedic treatment for UTI. My friend mentioned some herbs that could be beneficial, and I’d love to know if you guys have had success with ayurvedic treatment for UTI in the past? It’s just so frustrating because I feel like I've tried everything! I’m not sure if I should just give up and stick to the antibiotics but at the same time, I’m thinking, maybe there’s a better way. I really want to get back to normal and kick this UTI without loading up on medication. What do you guys suggest? Are there specific herbs or practices that you found helpful? Would love to hear your thoughts. I need some insight into ayurvedic treatment for UTI before I go back to the docs again! Any recommendations? Thanks a lot!

Certainly, dealing with a persistent UTI isn’t easy, especially when antibiotics just seem to offer temporary relief. It’s understandable you’re seeking a more holistic approach, and Ayurveda indeed offers some perspectives and practices that you might find beneficial.

Firstly, in Ayurveda, UTI is often linked to an imbalance in the Pitta dosha, as it’s associated with inflammation and burning sensations in the body. A key focus would be to soothe and balance Pitta. One crucial aspect is hydration. Drink at least 2-2.5 liters of water throughout the day. Coconut water is another good option, as it’s cooling and soothing for the urinary tract.

In terms of herbs, a few options are worth considering. Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris) is a popular herb in Ayurveda used for urinary issues. It may help cleanse the urinary tract and support kidney function. You can find Gokshura in capsule or powder form. Another herb, Varuna (Crataeva nurvala), can support bladder health and facilitate the proper detoxification processes.

Punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa) is another highly regarded herb for its diuretic properties, which aids in flushing out toxins. Including a teaspoon of Punarnava powder with warm water can be effective.

For dietary considerations, avoid spicy, acidic, and fried or oily foods. Including more cooling foods like cucumbers, watermelon, and aloe vera juice can be beneficial. Think of balancing your diet with more alkaline foods.

Also focus on keeping your digestive fire or Agni strong, since a well-functioning digestive system is crucial for overall health in Ayurveda. Lightly spiced food that aids in digestion using herbs like cumin, coriander or fennel can be helpful.

Don’t forget stress management. Practices such as gentle yoga and meditation have profound effects on your overall well-being, helping to reduce stress which is an important aspect of healing.

Before incorporating these remedies, especially herbs, it’s best to consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner, especially if you’re on medication, to ensure that there are no contraindications. Safety should always come first, and they can personalize solutions based on your unique dosha imbalance and symptoms.
