For conditions like IBS, pangastritis, and hiatal hernia, managing your diet is essential to balance your digestive system. Based on Ayurvedic principles and the restrictions provided by your physician, here’s a tailored diet plan for you. We’ll focus on foods that harmonize the digestive fire (Agni) and pacify Pitta dosha, often associated with these conditions.
Start your day with a glass of lukewarm water to kickstart digestion. Breakfast options should be light but nourishing, such as oats cooked with water instead of milk. Adding milk can be heavy and may aggravate the digestive tract. Season it with a pinch of cardamom or a small amount of jaggery if sweetness is needed.
Mid-morning, sip on warm water or herbal teas like chamomile or fennel, which are soothing for the digestive system. For lunch, favor foods that are cooked and warm – think plain rice with steamed vegetables such as zucchini, carrots, and spinach. Incorporate mung dhal (lentils), as they’re light and easy to digest. Avoid overly spicy or oily preparations.
In the afternoon, you could have a small bowl of ripe papaya, which is calming for the stomach, or a few soaked almonds peeled to ease digestion further. Dinner should mirror lunch but kept to a smaller portion size. If you eat non-vegetarian, choose well-cooked fish over meat, seasoned mildly with spices like turmeric and cumin.
Throughout the day, avoid caffeine, alcohol and refined sugars. Always keep meals simple and regular to stabilize your digestive rhythm. Keep a steady routine, with meals at the same time every day, which helps the body to get used to the food habits.
Do cautious about not lying down immediately after meals; maintain at least a 30-minute gap to prevent reflux or discomfort. Do remember, this chart is a general guide and individual symptoms may vary; consult your Ayurvedic physician for personalized recommendations.
