Chronic diarrhea and insomnia can indeed be troubling, especially with IBS as a backdrop. From a Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective, it’s likely that there’s an imbalance in your vata and possibly pitta doshas. The digestive system’s disturbed agni (digestive fire) often contributes to such conditions.
First, focus on regulating your vata. Regularizing your eating schedule can be a profound starting point. Strive for smaller, frequent meals composed of easy-to-digest foods. Kitchari, made from mung dal and rice, is particularly soothing and nourishing. Boil together equal parts of these two with ginger, cumin, and a pinch of turmeric for added benefits, ensuring they are well-cooked and soft.
To directly address aggravating vata, you can take 1 teaspoon of triphala powder in warm water or milk before bed. This should assist not just with digestion, but also in calming the nervous system. Since sleep is an issue, introduce Ashwagandha tea or an infusion with a teaspoon of the root powder brewed in warm water before bed—this adaptogenic herb is known to support sleep and overall vitality.
For further support, consider abhyanga, an oil massage. Use warm sesame oil, and gently massage your abdomen in a clockwise motion. Do this regularly for both vata calming and digestive improvement.
If diarrhea persists, seek immediate medical attention to rule out other underlying conditions and prevent dehydration. Adequte hydration is crusial, supplemented with electrolytes if necessary. Use these interventions together mindfully and remain attentive to the relevance of your condition with any additional symptoms.
